Many places in the world is using Wind Turbines as their major power source. Some of the places have gaint wind turbines that generate a lot of energy. I have a client who has a giant wind turbine near his house in the Netherlands. The one major thing that he complains about is the noise.
We know there are so many advantages in having wind energy implemented but there are also disadvantages. I used to wonder why some peak coastal regions are not using wind energy for generating power but heavy noise may not work out very well for residential areas.
Problems with wind energy
We cannot really say that Wind energy is not a sustainable energy because we have some problems. It is one of the top energy generation medium in many countries. The biggest problem can be the noise it generates when the turbines are operating. But it is not just that, there is also one more problem which is affecting the birds. We can see many birds getting stuck in a wind turbine or die because of wind turbines.
Mostly migratory birds have this problem and they get caught between the wind turbines. These artificial structures are required to generate power but they shouldn't be a threat to the other living species as well.
Wind energy in residential zones
This may not be a feasible solution because in residential region, we might need more power generated but small turbines may not be very helpful. Today there have been innovations where they are trying to reduce the noise of turbines and also have been thinking of alternatives for wind energy and some breakthrough has also been made.
There have been complaints that people get affected because of the sounds as they get insomnia and other mental health problems if they continue to live near wind turbines. In India, people who live near railway stations or a peak traffic zone usually have this problem and it is very hard to manage. Usually people get used to this sound and maybe it will not even be there when they sleep because they get used to it.
