Imagine with me: a Hive wallet was born with great hopes, aspirations, ambitions, positive votes, and motivational comments... and suddenly silence reigns: no notifications, no icons, no badges, no votes, no more Hive, no more HBD. Days pass, followed by months and years, and the wallet sits there, unmoving, holding indelible value inside. All this because someone lost its keys...
Stop imagining and let's get back to reality now.
Losing access to your wallet, whether on Hive or any other wallet, is extremely frustrating, especially if you've worked hard for years to build your reputation, path, and resources on Hive. As you know, Hive is unlike traditional Web 2 platforms. It doesn't have a "Forgot your password" button. Therefore, it's decentralized. No one will come to your aid. Your keys and cryptocurrencies belong to you alone. If you happen to lose your keys, all your assets remain untouched.
In this article, I've prepared some tips to avoid all of this:
1 - One effective method is to make copies of your keys in multiple, dispersed locations, don't forget to also write them down on paper and keep a copy at home in a sealed, waterproof, and damage resistant place.
2 - Be especially careful of random screenshots and scattered notes on your phone. You're putting your data at risk, especially if your phone falls into the hands of an untrusted person, as your data will be easily accessible to them.
3 - Beware of the big and common mistake of relying on your memory. You're literally committing a major crime against yourself, because Hive keys aren't like any other keys. They're long and complex, with capital and lowercase letters. Any mistake you make will keep you out of your wallet
4 - There are apps for managing Keepass or Bitwarden passwords, if you prefer digital solutions.
5 - One last piece of advice, if you have a close person you trust deeply, such as a wife, sister, or mother, leave a copy of your keys with them to keep for you.
Final Words
When you log into Hive as usual to start interacting and posting, it won't cost you anything to take a minute of your time to back up your keys, and you'll be very grateful later.
Finally, I hope this was helpful, if you did, don't forget to support, comment, and repost so others can benefit from it. This is extremely important for everyone.
