Let’s be honest: when we (@tydynrain and myself) unleashed our Hive Tipping Bots, @Indeedly, @hopelizer, @weirdly, @thestrider, @zombiebot, and @mmbbot, we thought we were onto something revolutionary. Each bot tipping in their own token, spreading smiles, Hive vibes, and maybe a dash of chaos? It felt like a digital utopia. Hivers could invoke their commands, tip recipients (and sometimes themselves), and our bots would leave a cheerful comment to commemorate the moment. What could go wrong?
Spoiler alert: a lot.
It turns out that when the combined forces of several highly active bots start churning out comments like it’s a Hive-wide karaoke night, things can get… messy. What we thought was community-building started to feel more like community-spamming. Our bot-powered cheer squad was flooding feeds, leaving the platform’s communities with the digital equivalent of a “Please stop” note pinned to the fridge. Downvotes rained down. Spam flags were raised. And we had to face the harsh truth: even our beloved bots had crossed a line.
From Spam Factory to Community Hero (We Hope)
After some soul-searching (and a lot of brainstorming), we decided it was time for a change. Enter our shiny new solution: the Daily Tipping Overview! Instead of spamming comments with every invocation, the bots now quietly log all their tips and post a single, elegant summary each day from their own account. Think of it as a highlight reel of generosity, a Hall of Fame for Hivers, and a nod to efficiency all rolled into one.
No more flood. No more chaos. Just a neat little package of good vibes delivered daily.
Why Did We Do This?
We Heard You: The Hive community spoke, and we listened. Nobody likes spam (except maybe Monty Python fans (I actually ate some of that spam yesterday!!! Loved it!!! )), and we’re committed to being good stewards of the platform.
Efficiency Is Key: Let’s face it, less clutter means everyone can enjoy their Hive experience without wading through comment jungles.
We Love Hive: This platform is all about collaboration, creativity, and respect. Our bots are here to support that, not derail it.
What’s Next?
With this new system in place, we’re optimistic that the bots can once again become valued members of the Hive ecosystem. We’ll continue to monitor their use and community feedback because let’s be real, if we’ve learned anything, it’s that this is an ongoing journey.
But if you think we’ve missed the mark, let us know! We’re open to ideas, constructive criticism, and possibly even a good meme about the bots’ “spammy” days. (Seriously, bring on the memes.)
