A number of rural counties in Oregon are in strong disagreement with their left-leaning politicians, to the point where they simply do not want to be a part of the state anymore.
Last week, the last of thirteen counties voted in favor of seceding from the liberal state of Oregon, in order to join the conservative state of Idaho, which they say aligns more closely with their values.
What impact will this have on the nation at large, and the US dollar?
Citizens of these eastern Oregon counties have been feeling underrepresented, and have voiced several grievances including:
- Increasing crime
- High taxes
- Progressive (woke) policies
The majority of eastern Oregonians want to retain their traditional values, and take a tougher stance on crime.
"They want to remake the Oregon we’ve known our whole lives. We want to preserve the values and way of life of old Oregon", said Mike McCarter, the President of Move Oregon’s Border.
According to News Nation, a recent poll showed that the majority of people in Idaho support this Greater Idaho movement.
The vote shows that national and state borderlines are not written in stone, and can change over time if the will of the people is strong enough.
That said, the border move would need to be approved by both the Oregon and Idaho state legislatures, along with the US congress before being officially recognized.
The last time the Oregon state line was moved was in 1958, although that was just a small adjustment.
Increasing Division
What is happening in Oregon is not an isolated movement, but rather representative of increasing nationwide division.
Vaccine mandates, illegal immigration, and woke ideology pushed by left-leaning states and the federal government is worsening the situation.
In the comments section of Twitter/X, people are speculating that eastern Washington could follow the same path.
What other nationwide conservative counties are likely to follow suite?
Impact on the Dollar
The more important question is, how might this increasing division impact the US dollar?
The USD has been the world reserve currency for decades because America has been a well-respected and unified country, but for how much longer?
These days, the world is watching America falling apart in real time. Videos of lawlessness in cities like San Francisco, Chicago and New York are spreading worldwide.
The American youth are crying on TikTok over being "misgendered", illigal immigration is out of control, and the cost of living is skyrocketing nationwide.
If America's irresponsible fiscal policies weren't enough, these societal issues are causing the world to lose even more faith in the United States and its monetary unit.
National Secession Next?
The once "United" States of America are becoming more and more divided, thanks to radical ideologies and reckless monetary policies that have caused abnormally high inflation.
At this point not much is holding the USA together anymore, aside from the US dollar, which is becoming increasingly less relevant on the world stage.
Once the dollar loses enough value, we will likely see counties not only seceding from their own state, but from the federal government as well.
They will then build their own economies based on valuable currencies such as gold, Bitcoin, or the tokens of other decentralized blockchains.
Conclusion
The proposed secession of eastern Oregon to Idaho not an isolated movement, but rather representative of the increasing division across the United States.
A number of societal and financial factors are causing the world to lose faith in America, along with its unit of account, the USD.
Precious metals and crypto are likely to replace the dollar, and power our more localized economies of the future.
