Today I wanted to reflect back on the enjoyment I've gotten as my own little curator!
Ecency Boosting Around
I haven't been able to dedicate the time and energy to doing some of the things that I know I could do, and one of those is becoming one of the "curators" for the bigger projects. I know there is an application, vetting and all that which goes into the whole thing. Could I make it as one? I think I could but I could also be delusional and they wouldn't want me making judgment calls on peoples content with a ten foot fucking pole.
Thankfully I don't have that much pressure on me, because I've done my own thing with using my Ecency points to do some curation project type stuff of my own!
I was one of the people who would use my Ecency points to boost my own posts, which in essence is just self-voting. I know there is a split of sorts on the platform on those who are accepting and pro self-voting and there are those that are against it. I lean more towards against it than I do for it, but that's mainly because people tend to abuse rewards and often times sell all of the rewards that they generate. That's not cool but it is what it is.
What I have been doing for the last few months, since the spring time I would say here in the northern hemisphere, is using the Ecency points that I generate through the comments and engagement I do on the platform, into boosting of people's posts that I think deserve it!
The interesting thing is that not all of the posts I select for the little boost get accepted and a vote sent out. This is a pretty good thing because we shouldn't always get the vote that we are looking to give, it's a little bit of a game of balance. If there are 50 posts that get selected for a boost, the team at Ecency needs to weigh what posts should take up a percentage of their voting power. The top picks are the ones that get it, and even then it is a selection amongst them!
It's a pretty fun thing to do though, being able to figure out my own way to give back on the platform besides my mediocre upvotes. I've been giving out a lot more 25% votes these days because I find that my voting power is getting recharged pretty quickly and I'm using less of it sometimes! That's a good thing because I can dish out some better ones for more people.
I have been certainly enjoying the positive appreciation that has been my account growth, the increased rewards and curation rewards are going straight into Hive Power so that it can be distributed far and wide to many people. I think I got a notification the other day that I distributed more then 180,000 votes to people! That's pretty wild in my opinion! Add on top of that the bit of voting power that I've managed to accrue and the healthy votes it can distribute, I've got my own bit of fun and enjoyment out of taking content that I'm finding out there and giving it some love.
I know that many people are striving to get the biggest upvotes and making it to trending and shit. That's cool for sure but that is likely something that doesn't last, and it's more important to cherish the people around you and in your little circle you've formed on Hive because those are the people who are going to be with you and support you along the way. Being able to go to some of these people's posts and give it a little Ecency boost is cool for sure! The better enjoyment I get is going to a person who I've not interacted with before, or not much, and consuming what I think is a pretty solid post with effort put into it and hoping that the Ecency team agrees and gives it some love.
Those small gestures are the ones that keep you on the platform as a new and smaller user, when you can accrue these things over time. I know that I certainly appreciated it when I was getting .02$ votes never mind .10 and 1.00 ones too!
I'm going to continue chipping away little by little at gaining and spending my Ecency points so that I can keep up my fun curation project here, the more we pay it forward the more other people will be willing to do the same!
