This is the youth unemployment statistics which is for the age group 15-34. Within this group an estimated 11% is graduates.
The Quarterly Labor Force Survey (QLFS) has the task of supplying the government with accurate data gleamed from surveys across the country. This is not happening and the number of house holds being surveyed come from one area namely Kya Sands with 29000 houses and only represents 0.2% of the country's population.
The problem with using Kya Sands and no other sample area is this area is mid way between two major cities being Johannesburg and Pretoria. Kya Sands is a known business hub for manufacturing and distribution with many business parks within the area.
The figures if they are saying is that 32.9% of the 29000 residents are unemployed is actually more worrying than they suggest. If they took a sample in the Eastern Cape that number would be so much larger than 32.9% because there are fewer employees. Kya Sands is like a best case scenario and why these figures are seriously flawed on all levels.
The government is not stupid and does not want the real figures released and by outsourcing the QLFS they are saying they are also being impartial with no say in the statistics. They are not impartial by knowing that these figures are coming form only 0.2% of the population in an area with more opportunity for employment than in any other parts of the country.
I have always said I do not trust the official unemployment figures as from what I have seen is that we are way over 50% and that 60% for youth unemployment is more likely the correct figure for all age groups.
The Social Grants which is SA's equivalent of an unemployment allowance of R350 ($20) is claimed by 28 million people each month which represents 44% of the population. The government has no clue how many people are in the country with the open borders policy so their data is a very big thumb suck.
The country had a census a few years ago which was a joke how it was carried out. We had 5 adults living on our property at the time and after I had completed the census which took 45 minutes I said should I call the next person? They asked how many more people and I said 4 more and she said no it would take too long. This was an official census and you can only imagine what figures were handed in.
Some areas in the country there is no work and unemployment rates will reflect closer to a 90% rate and nowhere near a 32% rate. Do you count in all the people residing in the country who are not South African because then who knows what the end number would be. Just google how many Zimbabweans are in SA and the answer is somewhere between 1 and 5 million. Wikipedia sates 4-7 million and I would throw another thumb suck saying 8-10 million and I bet I am closer to the number. Many are employed and why the number of unemployed by the local citizens is so high.
Even if Zimbabweans had 5 million jobs that would change the stats if they were not working in the country. People say open borders are great, but migration should also protect the local jobs by only accepting those that have skills that are required.
