It looks like Ethereum has had a pretty major speedbump as Geth nodes on the test nets act up. The developers on Ethereum are so lucky they do not have any major events coming up in the near future. Wait, what? What's that now? The Merge, no never heard of it...
Geth nodes were down
What has happened was that the Geth nodes, Geth is by far the most popular software used to run an Ethereum node, were acting up after the last update. This was version 1.10.22, in case you were wondering.
But one of the software is acting up, that should be fine, right? There are others that are still working. Well yes.

And just as Micah points out, there are other clients Geth is not the only one. But, and if you guessed there would be a but, you were correct. Points to you. =) The but in this case is a pretty substantial one. If we take a look at ethernodes.org we can see that indeed Geth is the most popular.

In fact, it is so popular that 75.03% of all current Ethereum nodes are using Geth. So while there are other nodes using other software. Having a potential flaw that can wipe out 75% of your nodes in one go. That is at least something that I would be concerned about.

But it appears at least that there is a hotfix that was put out earlier today. That at least will get the servers back up and running. And I would hope that this is something they will prioritize. As I assume it would be fairly important to have nodes that work when you plan to move to Proof of Stake.
It at least does not look like it will be affecting the Merge date. At least judging by the comments made by the developers.
What are your thoughts on this, do you see this as a red flag, or do you still have faith that the Merge will happen without any hitches? See you on the interwebs!
