So now we write 2023, and I have to be perfectly honest and admit that I am glad to see the end of 2022... much like I was happy to see the end of 2021... and 2020.
Maybe I am just imagining things, but it feels like there are more crap years nowadays than "banner years." Will 2023 mark a return to something better? I am hopeful, but I definitely have my doubts...
I don't make New Year's Resolutions, and I also don't set "hard" goals... I'm happy with a few "vague suggestions" because I almost inevitably miss the mark by a width greater than a barn door. Still it's sort of fun to keep trying... and dreaming.
Regardless, I do like to put these kinds of posts here once a year since the blockchain offers a good way to "archive information." So this post is as much for my own benefit as it is for anyone else's.
Hive Results and "Vague Suggestions..."
OK, so I started this year with 11,639.979 Hive Power, and at the close of business on December 31st, I managed to reach 15,477.894 Hive Power. So that means a gain of 3,837.915 HP — or 32.96% growth — in terms of tokens. Which is pretty impressive, all things considered.
Sadly, the dollar equivalent value of my stake actually declined from $17,576 to just $4,004, which is a (unrealized) loss of 77.22%. Our Hive token went from $1.4898 on 12/31/21 to $0.259 over the course of the year. Ouch.
Of course, we're fond of discounting fiat currency as "irrelevant" around here, but as long as I have to pay my taxes, electricity and groceries using some form of fiat, it is not an irrelevant comparison, for me.
Hive Goal for 2023: Well, reaching 20,000 HP by the end of 2023 sounds ambitious, but doable. It's at least something to shoot for, regardless of what the price of Hive might be, by such a time!
In terms purely of content creation, I ended the year at 1,966 top level posts published, and 16,355 comments written. Assuming something that looks like "fairly regular" publishing, my goal is to reach 2,250 posts and 18,500 comments by year end 2023.
In truth, that's actually a more "tangible" goal for me... speaking as a writer and content creator.
Various Hive Engine Bits...
Although most Hive-Engine projects tend to be hopeless boondoggles that go to zero in a matter of months," I am quite interested in the whole "2nd Layer" concept, and the idea of interest-based communities having their own tokens and tokenomics.
I'm primarily interested in three communities and their tokens, although I do have minor stakes in a few more... and I'm open to the possibility that something new might come along.
Leo Finance: Although I don't have much staked, Leo is one of the oldest communities, as well as the most independently active. Ended the year with 108.911 LEO staked and just hope to slowly build on that... I don't really write very much about finance/investing, so it'll be slow going. 500 LEO by year-end sounds reasonable.
Click-Track-Profit: I now have 3,223,759 CTP staked and again, this is a community I like because it is focused and as a self-employed person, I can relate. Not sure how well the token will hold its value, but I'll shoot for 4,000 CTP by year end.
Proof of Brain: This particular community once had a high-flying token, and it went all the way to the basement and seems to have come back a bit. I like the very defined token policy, and I now have 410.001 POB staked. Whether the community can actually keep it together and grow remains to be seen, but for now I'll set a goal of 1,000 POB by year end.
I own a few of Hive-Engine's "Investment tokens" as well, and would like to just keep slowly building those as well:
BRO: 13.508 as of 12/31/22 — looking to reach 25 as of 12/31/23.
INDEX: 57.808 as of 12/31/22 — looking for 150 as of 12/31/23.
Not really interested in clogging up the space with more detail than that.
Artwork and Personal Business
Not going to get into too many specifics here, but one of the biggies on this year's goal list is to get online sales of my @alchemystones on a more solid footing. In 2022, we re-built our business from attending outside shows and events — it basically went to ZERO between December 2019 and July 2022 due to pandemic-cancelled events — but the online business lags.
Not setting any goals for my editing business... I've been seeing a decline in inquiries, as people are postponing book projects on account of the shaky economy. Suffice it to say that business was down in 2022, and I don't expect it to get any better in 2023.
My old postage stamps for collectors business managed to scrape out a more or less flat result in 2022, mostly thanks to my having a little more time after scrapping my sea glass and "found objects" art supplies business after the close of 2021 because it had dwindles to almost nothing. Sadly, stamp collecting is a slowly dying hobby... but I'm going to give it a few more years. If I can just have another flat year in 2023, that would be a victory.
Wow. Just based on writing that, I clearly need to find another profession! And crypto ain't it!
Well, I think that's about all I need to put down for this particular post... we'll resume "regular programming" soon!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!
