I don’t think people really see how much the Internet of Everything is going to help the advancement of Artificial intelligence. You have probably seen the usual claims about IoE connecting devices, cars, cities, and just about any object you can imagine, but to me that is not the point that makes the biggest difference.

What matters is how linking every possible device, sensor and process in the world creates a lot of real data and the systems that are supposed to learn from this are not cut off or "starved for context". My point here is AGI or the idea of a machine reaching the point where it can adapt, reason, and perform most of what you and I do, can’t happen in a vacuum where data is limited to a text file or a simple set of pictures. That is just the beginner's sandbox. AGI, if it ever gets there would need to understand the entire range of events and information around it.
IoE is what changes the conditions because with every device now a data source and every process observable in real time, you are no longer training models on narrow problems, you are forcing them to handle the same open-ended and sometimes contradictory environment you live in.
Most of the traditional AI before now had one job and that was to detect an object, write a sentence and well, play a board game. That is not general intelligence. What you want is a system that never gets stuck because the situation is new or the information is incomplete.
Right now you can see the first signs of this, not as AGI but as advanced systems that learn to coordinate and react to things happening in a real environment, not just a clean simulation.
IoE I believe is what makes that possible.
I know some people argue that giving more data or connections just makes the problem harder. In some way yes. But that is the only way you actually create something that can navigate reality. Machines that can sense, move, talk, decide, adapt, and learn when things change. The hope is the same way you learned by being exposed to the world, these systems will develop more general skills by having a view of everything.
The biggest obstacle I see right now is not just hardware or algorithms, but getting systems to use all this information in a meaningful way without falling apart. You are not going to get AGI by isolating things or keeping them too simple, and IoE as we are seeing now, makes that isolation impossible.
So the relationship between IoE and AGI is as the world gets more connected, the chance to build something that really understands and interacts with it as a whole actually becomes real.
