Twitter, and later Facebook and Instagram, citing their concern about possible incitement to violence, have decided to indefinitely suspend accounts of US President Donald Trump. This decision, prompted Edward Snowden to comment that decision of Mark Zuckerberg will be, "for better or worse, the turning point in the battle for control over digital speech".
So, the world entered another unprecedented situation in which nominally most powerful man in the world just lost its main ability to communicate with such world. And that brings another, more disturbing realisation. If Silicon Valley oligarchs can do that to someone like Trump, what else could they do to some mere mortal?
This is another reminder of the enormous power of mainstream social networks. Thankfully, anyone who cherishes freedom of speech or simply doesn't want to worry about being deplatformed by malfunctioning algorithm, can seek alternatives. Whether on Hive blockchain or other social platforms.
I decided to take a look at the new microblogging platform noise.cash. The project, which uses Bitcoin Cash for tipping, is still in alpha stage. Despite that, GUI looks smooth and user-friendly. Tipping looks much more complicated compared to Hive-based platforms, and exploring new content and creating post feed based on favourite users is somewhat more difficult. However, general impression is still positive and noise.cash might have potential, either as a proper alternative to Twitter or inspiration to Hive-based microblogging alternatives.
