We are living in exciting, but also very dangerous times. And some of those dangers have more and more to do what we do online or, more precisely, what we say online. In last year it became apparent that certain concepts, which have been taken for granted by generations, are not here any more. That includes, sadly, freedom of speech and the number of things that can’t be said is increasing, as well as number of individuals subjected to these bans.
The latest of such examples is Michael “Big Short” Burry, investor known for running Scion Asset Management and immortalised as character in 2015 film Big Short in which he was played by Christian Bale. Burry, known for expressing his strong opinions, have just announced that he would “stop tweeting after SEC paid him a visit”, in other words, that he was warned that his public speech and expressing opinions can be interpreted as illegal market manipulation.
Burry is not known exactly as a friend of cryptocurrencies, and many in cryptosphere probably won’t shed too much tears for his departure from Twitter. However, as many in history have learned, having voices you don’t like silenced by government doesn’t mean that government one day won’t silence you.
