This year I have struggled a lot with how I spend my time on social media, especially YouTube, and my addiction to YouTube started from tech reviews, I have been following some tech reviewers for some now but I was never a fan of YouTube but I don’t know what changed this year because I have been watching a lot of YouTube video and most social media have an algorithm that shows you more of the videos you recently watched. Different platforms have this algorithm but I believe YouTube's own is very perfect and it is now a war among different companies to gum us to our phones by improving their services.
The more time we spend on social media the more money we make for those companies, I realize I was held hostage and I must break free. Most people are hostage to their favorite website like I was to YouTube early this year and I did not see it as a problem until my phone started showing me the history of my screen time and I realized that I was spending too much time online and if I was using that much to learn something new I would have seen much improvement already. I realize I don’t have much time to do anything anymore.
Your time just shrink
One thing most people don’t know is how social media has changed how we view time and how we have been living our life just to balance the amount of time we are spending on social media and one thing everybody keeps saying is that there is no time but that is not true and this is because social media allows us to always engage in something and this might not be topically something beneficial but what it guarantees for sure is burn a lot of time and give us less room to think and less room to address things we want to do and instead of doing the things we want to do first and do social media letter, we always do the direct opposite.
When I deleted the YouTube app on my phone and also stayed away from my phone, I realized I had a lot of time and at the beginning of the experiment, I was lonely, bored, and always had a lot of time left after I finished my task and it was a different story with my phone. Smartphones and social media companies are improving every day just to give us the best services and what that means for us is more time on the phone and that is they keep us hostage and shrink our time. The phone has become part of that any plan to stay away doesn’t always last long.
It is easier
We are living in a world where we are all happy to be held hostage and also getting increasingly difficult to avoid screens of any sort, the easier thing anybody can do is to do their activities first and social media later to maximize their time but if it is other way around, it will become difficult and it will always lead to is lack of time, less thinking and less productive.
Thanks for time.
