Have you heard of AVAX? It's the popular Avalanche blockchain. And Pangolin? Its a Uniswap fork built on Avalance. I hadn't really heard of these things either until @psyberx took their LVL token and bridged it over there.
Its a whole new world, different than HIVE. But I learned something today and I want to share it with you.
Any token with a checksum can be swapped by sites like Pangolin, but in order to really get 'listed' a token needs to be whitelisted. There is a fine read me in the github repo, but you have to be like a dev to get into that stuff right?
NO! Devs costs dozens of dollars or more and I for one am completely capable of using github! And you probably could to if you had the courage to try.
The readme explains exactly what needs to be done. First, I took the above image to an online image resizer, and made a 24x24 and a 48x48 pixel versions of it.
I double checked that the address for the AVAX version of LVL token was 'checksummed' using this tool - https://ethsum.netlify.app/ - and it was! Read more about checksumming here if you think you want to understand that - I don't yet because I was busy doing this on github!
I made a folder using my checksummed address as the name, and put the images inside of it.
The LVL token was already verified several days ago on snowtrace so all that was left to do was make the Pull Request (PR).
You do this by first creating a fork. This is like copying their code (token list) over into a private folder on your github. There you can edit it all you want without it bothering anyone else.
The edit we want to make is adding our token to their token list, we can do that by clicking on the assets folder, then clicking 'add file'. You can upload your folder with the long checksummed name into the assets folder just like everyone else has done.
Then click the green 'create pull request' button.
What is a pull request?
You can read all about that here from github themselves, but pull requests are what make github, and open source software development in general, so popular. It's not really about making forks, although that is cool to, its about suggesting edits, which is a pull request.

is basically me requesting that the Pangolin exchange update their token list to include the token that I want to add. Many projects use github, this is called 'version control', because every edit or update is a new version, complete with the person who suggested it, the person who accepted it, what it was like before and what it was like after.
Once the Pangolin team reviews my submission, they can chose to accept, reject, or leave me a comment.
Open source software management is the future of collaboration! It could be for writing a book, maintaining a website, or getting listed on an exchange. And you can do it too!
