Livestock are very important to human because they are domestic animals which are being taking care of or raised for the ability of value for source of food. Livestock animals are what we can't do with out in our daily basis in one way or the other because we eat them or rear them.
Farmers raise livestock like the goats, pigs, cattle and sheeps while other people also train or raise livestock like fowls and rabbit in their homes or little farm where they can be taking care of.
Beef which is the most common meat in Africa especially Nigeria where we have more of them in the northern part trained by Fulani. The poultry farm which produces chickens are also form of food because they provide eggs which they lay and can be eaten as a form of food.
Crop farming in the other hand is another important way of generating more food which is been done in the farm. Most people engaged mostly on crop farming or practice subsistence farming which can't make them lack food and also they produce enough to cater for the family.
These food items are cash crops that consists of crops like cassava, yam plantain, groundnut and cocoa, palm oil are done through plantation. There are oil palm plantation in some part of Nigeria especially in Imo state and Edo state.
Other cash crops like Cocoa, and kolanuts are produced or grown in large quantities in Western part of the country while cotton and groundnut is mainly produced in the northern part of Nigeria.
Mixed farming is also practiced in Nigeria with the likes of pineapples and plantain in between. However, that can't be done with likes of melon because it will not thrive well.
Every land has is own specific crop to be planted on especially when you get a land for cultivation you will decide what crop is to be planted on that land. For instance, we have a loamy soil this is best chosen cassava and clay soil for rice.
Before starting a plantation in a land bush-burning is not the best idea but to clear and decompose rubbish which will later enrich the soil as manure.
It is better to plant during the cropping season for a specific crop especially when rain sets in and this are been done or harvested during the middle of dry season. Though, they are annual crops because perennial crops takes more than a year to mature.
Annual crops consists of legumes like beans and peas then grains like maize, rice, millet are been produced. Also yam, cassava, potatoes and cocoyam are favourable tubers in Nigeria.
Plantation requires tender love with care because weeds are always constantly removed to allow plant to flourish. Yam for example, as the tendrils grow they are staked to climb a supporting yam sticks. The better the soil the larger the harvest if the soil is enriched.
We have different crops with different demands practiced on the soil. This is why rotation agriculture is practiced in most part of the country.
