What would you choose?
A massive (expensive) vendor board that evolves and has its challenges...
Or a cloud based solution you don't even know or control the hardware development of it for (actually) about the same price in a year or two time?

If you have the skills...
Do make sure you continue "control" (knowledgeable) on what you like. Otherwise you are just making it easy for others to take advantage of you. And they will... eventually.
The Lesson...
Choose what you love most and get as much as you can, skilled at. Collaborate with others and your knowledge will expand like crazy, while you are not jeopardizing your own skills value. Then make it distributed, so others can join you and help you effort get bigger and more mature. Making whatever vision you had even more powerful!
