That's it! I need a new chair! My old ergonomic chair became unusable some time ago, and I've been using a borrowed chair for a while, which is not good for the purpose I'm using it for, or for the time it's used daily.
My back is reminding me that I postponed the decision to buy a new chair unjustifiably for a long-enough time.
Since I probably spend 8-10+ hours a day in front of a computer most of the time (sometimes longer), a good ergonomic chair is... critical, I'd say.
How it looks probably isn't the most important thing since it's for my home office, but how good it does its job to relief the tension of various parts of the body while working for a long time... is. Also, how long it lasts. Price may be a criterion, but not as important as the others I mentioned, since without a good chair, treating health issues caused by using a bad chair would cost much more than an expensive chair. At least, that's how I feel about it, my family doesn't seem to agree and is advising me to look for cheaper options—"after all, it's a chair". The choice is mine, and they won't say anything (more) if I choose an expensive chair.
Maybe they have a point too, and I aim too high. Perhaps I am under the impression of a certain ad, with all I was looking for (and more), highly adjustable. But the price is very high too. I could have settled to a model without some of the extras I don't need, for a lower price.
Now I wonder if I should buy a chair online or not, at all, even if it's highly adjustable. My back pains usually come from the lumbar area. I probably have a more accentuated than average curvature of the spine in the lumbar area, so that part of the chair needs to fit well my back. When I bought my previous chair (from a physical store), having a special moving part for the lumbar area was considered quite advanced. Now it is pretty standard I guess, but I've seen a model (still not on the market) with a kind of piston than pushes against the lumbar area at an adjustable tension—so, that part of the chair would constantly stay in contact with the lumbar area, no matter how you move on the chair.
Presentation video for the chair I'm talking about above. Not my first choice, btw.
I have an average height and some would say I'm below average with my weight, which is good when searching for a chair. Being too tall makes it difficult to find a chair suitable for you, and weight matters for how much the chair could last in a good condition.
We are diverse and with different needs. But sometimes ideas pop up when you see them at someone else first.
What do you guys use? What would you buy if you were looking for a chair? Maybe there's something you would consider improving at your own chair.
