Learning and writing about finances consistently has really taught me that it doesn't just end with me, if I ever plan to have a partner then we need to really talk money together as well, I mean there is no sense in having your own finances figured out and everything is working as well as you want it, then someone comes into your life in form of a partner and just messes up everything, so it is important that we talk about it and make sure that we are on the same page with the person we plan to get into a relationship with, or even better still build a life with. Here are the questions and discussions you need to have with your partner in order to have a peaceful relationship, as we cannot all deny the fact that, money is a very essential factor.

Speak about your values.
The fact that you both appear compatible does not guarantee that you have similar attitudes about money, the various attitude you have about money will proceed from the background, cultural differences, and even different goals. The questions should be centered around;
- If he/she has the plan to ever own a home and how soon they plan to reach their goal?
- Do you have a retirement plan?
- Do you prioritize spending money on travel or other expenses?
- Are you into charity, and what nature of organization would you like to donate to?
Understand your financial stand.
Since you both will be coming together to be together, your earnings, debts, savings are very important as well as that of your partner, you both need to sit down and share this information, you must be open, honest and nonjudgemental about it, this is to clearly avoid future quarrels or disagreements.
Make a decision on joining accounts.
It is also important to understand one another's stand when it comes to matters of pulling resources together or not, do you both want to operate individual accounts while together or do you want to pull resources together to achieve one common goal? This is a decision that the both of you need to make together, remember it is not a one-sided thing.

Getting into a committed relationship is certainly not just about now, but what the both of you want to do in the future. Where will you like to be in five years time, do you have anything specifically to save for?
