If you have some idea about a website and how things work you might know about WebP image files.
WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web, according to developers.google.
Uploading PNG or JPEG images could take a good amount of space from your hosting if there are a bunch of pictures in these formats. This is something that could make your website run slow or load slow.
There are some tools with the help of which you can check your website speed. The one I use often is pagespeed.web.dev.
It shows website speed for both, Mobile and Desktop. Not only the website speed but other things as well like SEO, accessibility, etc.
Anyway, coming back to the point, there are a bunch of users on Hive uploading a good amount of images on the platform. I think this may effect the performance of the website and its speed.
Isn't it better for Hive to add support for WebP file images? WebP file images take less space compared to PNG or JPEG images.
WebP is a raster graphics file format developed by Google intended as a replacement for JPEG, PNG, and GIF file formats, according to wikipedia.
I don't know how all this image storage stuff works on Hive but what if they add support for WebP file images on the platform?
Any thoughts on this?
