The Solana ecosystem is buzzing nowadays and along with it is the speculation going around that Phantom Wallet might do an airdrop. There was even a rumor that it may launch its own token. While these may sound wild and there is no confirmation from Phantom, who knows if there is truth to it?
Anyway, before anything else let's have a brief overview of what Phantom is and some of its features.
Phantom Wallet
Phantom is one of the non-custodial, multi-chain wallets for crypto and NFTs. Although it supports Ethereum and Polygon, it is more tailored to the Solana ecosystem, hence, SOL is the token used for transaction fees. Users can even disable the other networks if they only want to use the Solana chain.
The wallet allows users to trade or swap, send, and receive tokens. They can also access various DeFi applications, stake SOL to validators, and earn yields. The wallet also enables them to purchase ETH, MATIC, and SOL directly through MoonPay and Coinbase Pay.
Users can swap or bridge cross-chain assets through the integrated Cross-Chain Swapper.

Of course, users can store and manage their crypto assets and NFTs; access various NFT marketplaces, and sell collectibles using the "Instant Sell" feature and have immediate liquidity.
There are other features in the wallet including scam detection that warn users of suspected scammy websites or transactions. The wallet also has Ledger support on selected browser extensions.
With the addition of the Bitcoin network (still in Beta), users will be able to store and transact Bitcoin and Ordinals in the Phantom Wallet.

Phantom Quests
There is an ongoing Phantom quest on the mobile app if you want to explore and test out the wallet. Completing them will earn you free collectibles (Phantom NFTs).
To do that, go to the app and tap on "Explore" and then "Quests."

** 1️⃣ Minting a photo or video collectible**
You will be asked to upload either an image or a video file and give it a name, a symbol, and a description. The mint cost was $2.12 plus the network fee of 0.001 SOL. Upon completion, you will receive a Phantom NFT. I claimed a Minty Camera Roll, a second release from the Phantom Commemoratives collection. It has a floor price of 0.01 SOL.
Only 10 days remain to complete this task at the time of this writing.
2️⃣ Subscribe to DRIP
This second quest requires creating a profile on the NFT drop platform in Solana called DRIP. You will need an invite code for this or you should have at least 0.1 SOL in your wallet. Accordingly, you will have the chance to receive weekly drops from different creators.
You can also play LEGENDARY LOCK IN there (opening a chest daily) for a chance to win a rare or legendary collectible. You can choose to subscribe to various creators in different categories. That will enable you to claim droplets (complimentary NFTs) every 6 hours.
Anyway, upon completion of this second task, I received a collectible called Drippy Ghost, the first edition of the Phantom Commemoratives collection. The floor price is also 0.01 SOL.
How to Prepare For Any Potential Phantom Wallet Airdrop
DISCLAIMER: Once again, there is no confirmation from Phantom if there is any airdrop at all but there's no harm in doing some preparations. Here are some of the suggested things to do:
- 👉Download the Phantom Wallet (preferably the mobile app, iOS or Android). Make sure to download it from the official site.
- 👉Set up a wallet if you don't have one already.
- 👉Fund it with SOL (you also need it for the transaction fees).
- 👉Use the swap feature as often as you can.
- 👉Buy, sell, or transfer NFTs in your wallet.
Summing Up
Phantom Wallet is one of the most popular ones, especially in the Solana ecosystem. It would be nice if it expanded its support to more tokens and networks. I do like the fact that it is adding support to Bitcoin and Ordinals and it will be interesting to test it out soon.
The airdrop speculations are just that - speculations. There is no guarantee whatsoever that it is going to happen.
⚠️WARNING! Be careful when visiting links. Always check and verify them before connecting your wallet. There are a lot of scammers around and they can drain your wallets in an instant.
