I checked closely. I had enough mobile data to last at least before the next payout. I had enough provisions to do the same too. I thought I wouldn't have any need for cash whatsoever so I calmly clicked send and empty my checking account of all the money I had to my landlady. It wasn't enough for the rent. I only made promises about the next time she will be receiving another payment from me as a renewal for the year. Until tonight.

As soon as my friend said goodbye, I had my bath hoping to gracefully stay in between my sheets and write something for the evening, boom, my phone rebooted. It's been doing this for days and I kept thinking it's the usual, "Restart after 2 AM", settings that I had. I did not realize that it was getting faulty and I needed to have it checked. My friend mentioned it could be the phone update. I cognitively planned to manually update my device on a good day when we had a power supply.
So when my phone rebooted and nothing came up anymore, I panicked for a lot of reasons.
• I had new keys that I was yet to safely store away for my extra iska accounts and the porn hub account that I recently created.
• I did not have any money in my bank account so there was no way I could run transactions using my debit card.
• The only way I could access money would be by having access to the internet, logging into my Hive wallet, and running a few exchanges. At this point, that was impossible.
• All the writings I have done in the last 4-5 years were safely stored on my phone. I could lose them except the ones published on chain
• All the subconscious ideas I usually leave on my notepad will be gone
• I worried about the apps whose passwords I may not have to remember.
• Most importantly I was worried I would not be able to publish a post today which takes me out of the 365-day writing race.
At this point, I knew if I waited till morning, everything would be fine with my phone because I could find a way to fix it. But I couldn't wait till morning. I needed to at least know the way forward. I needed to know if I would be able to have all my keys back. I needed to know if it would be possible to do a post today or not. My mind raced in different directions.
The only thing that saved me tonight was the fact that I recently had an emergency encounter that encouraged me to buy a button phone. So I placed a call to my friend and asked him to contact a mutual friend of ours who fixes devices. Our Mutual Friend came through for me. I had contacted a different person but the human tried to put me on hold until tomorrow by 10 am. Probably I would have died of anxiety before then since I am always actively awake.
This mutual friend of ours came through for me. He was willing to take the risk and we met at a certain hangout spot and he helped me diagnose the fault with my device. He created a temporary solution (we plan to meet and carefully fix the phone) when I explained it was important that I publish one last post before midnight. Right now, I am typing and feeling happy that I had someone I could depend on.
Believe me, when I started this post I wanted to share why emergency funds are important. Why? At that moment when reality hit me and I realized I was going to lose my data, I scolded myself for always preaching emergency plan B but never really getting to exercise them in my life. Even my friend's words came back as he always advised me to never be closely tight up in a way that I can't handle emergencies not because I don't have the funding but because I am not liquid at the time.
As I wrote and remembered our mutual friend, I realized just how important it is for people to know that they can depend on us. I often tried to do it from my end. Like working on the glossary and making sure I show up every day. I always do this because I understand the feeling of knowing that you have someone you can depend on. My mutual friend exhibited this attribute and I was not just happy, I was impressed too.
In my subconscious, I made up my mind to always recommend and refer him to other people because as it stands, I can beat my chest that he will come through for his clients no matter what happens. I am convinced he is someone that can be depended upon.
It's an attribute that we all should have. When you show up for people, clients, business partners, or whatever relationship you have with other people, we create a sort of trust and affinity that could take you places. One singular positive notion that people have about you will take you far. It could be just about anything especially when you are giving this when the next person desperately needs it.
It's not all the time that things need to have monetary value. The truth is you may not get any monetary gain at that moment but this person's vote of confidence will take you to places where you might be able to make 10X more than he could have possibly given you in the short term.
