Hive does have lots of markdown stylings, but, we can't use all of them in one single writing. I use some markdown styling frequently and there are those I barely even touch.
Source
The Asterisk
I have always used an asterisk to bold or italicize my texts. I recently found out, I could use the underscore for this purpose too. although I haven't gotten around to using the underscore, I'll have to do it one of these days. Who knows I might fall in love with this one.
Hashtags
Every time, my writing need to have headings, I always used hashtags styling at the beginning of my text for different sizes of headings. So, depending on what subheading I want, I use either single, double or triple hashtags
Dividing Line
I had no idea there was a code for this one until recently. Every time I needed to use a divider I try to remember a recent post I saw it on, copy the link address and use it on my post. I don't know if this is wrong, I hope to be corrected so I can never have to make this mistake anymore
Stylings I never used
I haven't used superscript, subscripts, underline, strike through stylings, ever, I never had a reason to. My post just had similar formatting so I didn't have to use any of these stylings.
Quote
I have used the quote styling several times, I have lost count. it's becoming a part of me. I often have a reason to quote someone in a post or a comment. Therefore, the quote styling and I are buddies. I am always happy to use it because most times it shortens my response to someone's posts or comments.
The ordered list and unordered list
I have tried using the ordered and unordered list, I think, once, or twice, but I can't say. It had to be on a post or comment that I was required to list something. I think it was that post I wrote during the newbies initiative if I am not mistaken. But what I don't remember vividly is if I have ever used the ordered and unordered list in its nested form. One other thing you should know is that I do not need a code to create an ordered list, because peakd offers an easy way to do it through the post-editing dashboard.
Linkbacks
Surely I have used the link styling for Linking back to my previous posts or other authors, especially as contest rules. And I have used it more to source the images on my posts. Except for Automatic URL Linking, I do not like the automated URL linking because it doesn't look beautiful to me. I prefer to use the coded form of linkbacks so that my posts will be well formatted. This doesn't mean you wouldn't catch me using the automatic URL linking in the comment section. I'll use it because it's faster and most times I can be very lazy to format it.
Column Styling
There are lots of stylings on Hive, and I haven't experimented with some of them because it usually feels like a daunting task for me. So, I shy away from experimenting with them. Maybe, I'll have to choose a lazy day and experiment with most of them. The biggest example is the styling that split writings into two. I think it's called column styling. Most people love using this styling more if they have to write their posts in different languages. So, to divide the languages instead of packing the translation on the same formatting front, they use column styling.
Emoji Styling
Of course, I use emojis a lot, Peakd allows me to use my keyboard emojis anytime I want. But do you know there is styling for emojis too? Hahaha.... you did not hear this from me...ask @magnacarta or read it up on his post
Justify Text
This is the styling that I use every time I hit the publish button. It makes my post properly aligned and easy to digest.
Conclusion
Are there formatting and stylings you love to share? I'll be in the comment box to learn a few new ones. Share with me. Thanks.
On the other hand
Do you think, I should have added the different codes to these stylings? I hope not. For there are lots of posts around Markdown stylings. And I'll be happy to leave you links to the ones I have read through. At the same time, if you do want a faster way to commit the stylings to memory without having to go through the posts I'll recommend, you can head right to the comment box and mention the styling you are interested in. I'll be there to share the codes through texts or screenshots. Thanks again.
