Estimating Returns Staking HBD for 20% APR
Hi Friends,
I've been intrigued by the option to earn 20% APR by staking Hive-backed Dollars (HBD) into savings. To get a sense of potential returns over time, I put $500 worth of HBD into savings and tracked results. After one day, I had earned 0.2 HBD in interest. Small but promising start!
To estimate long-term returns at 20% APR, I created a spreadsheet modeling staked amounts vs. estimated interest earned over different periods - daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. The goal was to see how long it would take to earn back my initial $500 stake, or hit other earning milestones based on the amount staked.
Here's what my models showed:
(*Note the numbers below DO NOT take into account compounding the interest/earnings)
- For a 500 HBD stake to fully double, it would take around 6.9 years earning 20% APR
- To earn 500 HBD in interest in one year, a stake of approximately 3,500 HBD would be needed.
- To earn 500 HBD in 6 months, the required stake would be around 7,000 HBD staked
- For quarterly payouts totaling 500 HBD, a stake of roughly 14,000 HBD would be needed.
- And to earn 500 HBD each month in interest, you'd need to stake approximately - 42,000 in HBD.
These numbers illustrate how staking larger amounts of HBD allows you to hit interest goals faster, thanks to the 20% annual rate. But even moderate stakes can accumulate substantial returns given enough time, and this is not considering compounding over time. (* Remember again, results do not add compounding in)
The ability to generate this level of passive income on stablecoins is powerful. Some of my overseas friends live on $60 USD a week. To hit that in passive returns, you would need to stake about 21,500 HBD. Sure, it's a large amount, but not totally out of reach. And unlike traditional savings, you retain total control of your crypto.
I plan to continue staking HBD and reinvesting interest to maximize gains.
