Hello everybody on Hive and especially LeoFinance! Are you familiar with the HiveBuzz website? It is one of several websites that tracks how accounts are doing on HIVE.
If I type in https://hivebuzz.me/@jasperdick, I am greeted with the following information:
A useful little summary of how I am doing - Try it with your account name!
But if you look up at the top right corner of this page, you should see a little red crown icon, this takes you to a Ranking page (https://hivebuzz.me/ranking) that ranks all the accounts on Hive according to various categories!
All of the following screenshots are taken from https://hivebuzz.me/ranking
REPUTATION
The default ranking category is Reputation
Reputation is hard to explain, but appears to be a score that summarizes how your posts are upvoted compared to down-voted, to prove that you are an account that posts quality content.
The clear winner in this category is "hbd.funder". How did they get such a good score out of only 10 posts?
Well, all of the posts were used to raise funds for the "hbdstabilizer account, which I assume works toward keeping the HBD value close to the value of the dollar, which is very important to those who want HBD to be a safe and stable investment, and so these posts earned significant upvotes...
The rest of the top 5 have posted thousands of posts each, and all seem to average over 1 000 upvotes per post, hence the very high reputation scores!
How am I doing? - Well I joined HIVE in April 2022, and so have been here for just over a year. My reputation is 71.93, earning me a ranking of 1 537th place!
POSTS
The next metric or category you can select is the number of posts an account has made...
We can quite quickly see that a huge number of posts does not necessarily equal a high reputation. Some of the top posting accounts here even have a negative reputation, meaning they have been down-voted significantly and that many of their posts have been hidden by moderators!
So, make sure that your posts are high quality and posted in the appropriate communities!
How am I doing? - I have only posted 300 posts. I tend to put effort into my posts that usually involve me playing music or sharing my own POV (point-of-view) surfing footage. This means I only do about 4 or 5 posts per week on average, and puts me in a lowly 14 072nd place as far as number of posts go! Hahaha!
HP
Staked HP (Hive-Power)! Obviously the leading accounts are the biggest whales:
Did you know that there are only 35 whale accounts? In fact, if you count all the whales, orcas and dolphins (as of 31 July 2023), the entire number of these accounts is 1 997. Quite a small number in my opinion!
How am I doing? - I am lucky in that one of the goals I set myself in my first year on HIVE was to grow my HP as fast as possible, and so I a now a Dolphin account with 6 416 HP, putting me in 1 815th place!
Effective HP
Effective HP is your HP, minus the HP you have delegated, plus any HP that has been delegated to you! As such, it is a measure of your voting power!
Obviously many of the Whale accounts are high up this chart (although notice that "Freedom" has delegated nearly all its HP away!).
There are also some of the accounts that I recognize as the ones that are likely to be at the top of the list of voters on some of my posts if they happen to do well, like "appreciator", "ocdb" and "rocky1". These accounts appear to be curators, that have been chosen to look for, and reward, quality posts. I assume many accounts have chosen to delegate some of their HP to help give these accounts as much voting power as possible.
How am I doing? - I actually haven't delegated any HP away at the moment, and so my effective HP is also 6 416 HP. In this case, this puts me in 1 584th place! Considering that my full vote value is only worth about $0.11, it seems funny to think that there are so few accounts with more voting power than me...
It shows that HIVE is still quite niche, and in order to get really powerful votes, you need upvotes from quite a small pool of powerful accounts!
Still, I'm glad that my vote is now worth a little something so that I am starting to give out about 10-15HP per week, instead of simply getting rewarded and not giving anything back!
Author HP
I think Author HP gives an indication of how much you have been rewarded for your posts. If you look at some of the top Whale accounts, you will see that this number can be quite small compared to their total HP, which simply means that they had to invest outside money into their total HP. "Freedom" has not published a single post!
I come from South Africa! The two top South African accounts that I am aware of are "cryptoandcoffee" and "papilloncharity". If we look closely at these two Orca accounts, we can see that their total HP is almost entirely built up of Author HP and Curation HP, over years of posting and up-voting! What a consistent and amazing effort, as their accounts are now worth quite a bit, especially in South African Rands (nearly R18 to the $!)
How am I doing? - My Author HP score is 5 916HP. My good friend @clairemobey performs music with me in public and has sometimes made me a beneficiary of her posts that feature both of us (although I have done the same for her and others). I have also been lucky to win HIVE or HBD in several music related contests on HIVE, which I have staked as HP!
My Author HP score puts me in 2 654th place. It is important to remember that many accounts need to live off the money they make by posting on HIVE, and so cash it out instead of having the luxury of building up their staked-HP!
It is also interesting to note that nobody could have become a Whale account through posting alone... SO FAR!
VALUE
Okay! The last metric/category that we will look at today is total account value!
The top 3 accounts are not WHALE accounts and actually have very limited staked-HP. They have also never posted or commented in their lives!
Their accounts are worth millions of dollars in liquid HIVE and liquid HBD. I assume these accounts are making money through trading back and forth between HIVE and HBD, depending on the HIVE price, or may even be used to help stabilize either the HIVE and/or HBD price because of their relatively huge account sizes? Perhaps these are just linked to hugely wealthy people who have huge faith that HIVE will go up in value over time! Does anyone know?
How many of these top accounts are making great use of the 20% annual interest that you can get by saving your HBD? Only 13th placed "lazy-panda" seems to be a top account focusing on this strategy, which surprises me - but I suppose for these wealthy people, perhaps crypto/HIVE/HBD is the more risky side of their portfolio, and they can beat a 20% return if they buy low, and sell high, cleverly!
How am I doing? - My value is mostly in staked HP, and I've only just started to accumulated HBD more recently, so my account is worth about $2 485 (although this fluctuates greatly with the HIVE price), putting me in 2 514th place.
GOODBYE
I hope you've learnt something from this post and will go check out your own rankings on https://hivebuzz.me/ranking, and maybe set some goals as a result! Please remember not to compare yourself with other accounts, but to rather focus on yourself and being better than you were yesterday!
Do any of you have insight into some of these top accounts we looked at today, and what they aim to do? I'm sure some of them have a strategy in place that the rest of us could learn from!
