For one to succeed in any ramification let him see the project as a business. As a student, you need to see the college as your business place. Why? It is because every business demands some strategies to attain a great height. Just as businesses have lots of challenges, schools similarly do; therefore, for a student to overcome the obstacles faced in colleges, universities, polytechnics, etc there is a need to set up a strategy that will keep you on track.
Experientially, I graduated from the University of Uyo with a first-class grade; and know what it cost me to consistently be an A-grade student till my final year. You will discover that when promoted from one level to the other you will change your strategy of studies, relationships, etc. This is the essence of my write-up - being able to see that task as a business.
Predominantly, business-minded gurus have only one thing in mind, it is either it works or it works; no alternative. Having such a mindset is the first strategy to adopt in your academic pursuit; though it is not limited to only academics. Before I got to the university, I've been aligning my thoughts to becoming the valedictorian of my set. I can remember I got the phone numbers of many first-class students after every convocation I intentionally attended. Before all these processes, I could imagine it! Similarly, as far as I can see in my heart, I can have it in my hand - that was my mindset strategy.
Furthermore, in an academic journey where challenges, excuses, and obstacles are the order of the day, the need for strategizing cannot be overstated. My regrettable action was that I saw extracurricular activities of the university as a distraction or hurdles on my way. I did not have a good social life but I was good in the classroom. So, strategizing for academic excellence is not enough but creating a balance makes you a complete man. In a rigorous course of study, like mine (Geoinformatics and surveying), overcoming academic setbacks needs a balance because, in the outside world, you gain contracts by how you relate with people, not the BSC papers. In essence, this second is a strategy used to differentiate between success and mediocrity, and it's attainable by balancing academics with social life.
Before I gained admission into the university, over five (5) first-class students were my friends; I built this cordial relationship because the circle of friends influences the height you will attain. So, the strategy I employed as a student was seeking guidance from those who have treaded the path of my career excellently; also, I met other people who weren't studying my course but did well in their academic pursuits. I had a clear vision of where I was going because before starting school, consulting with first-class students gave me insight and direction as to what was coming ahead. Their counsel guided me and I coupled it with my dedication to study. Dear readers, the above-mentioned was one of the strategic approaches that paved the way for my own academic achievements.
In the path of attaining excellence, when you follow the path of elders who did excellently, you will create your path along the line because your experience may be different from theirs, this is what makes the academic journey complex and interesting. These complexities demand strategies that are well-planned and executed.
Here’s the new path I discovered that could be a strategy to overcome these challenges and emerge excellent (a valedictorian):
- Goal Setting:
The truth is that "nothing just happens," there is a plan behind every success. Strategy begins when you have a clear vision of what you want to achieve. For instance, I wanted to be first-class, I set possible goals to hit that mark. With a defined goal, effort to reach that level will be made with ease and not under pressure. To those aiming for top grades, set goals and at the same time set it on time.
- Resource Management:
In the University, we have both full-time and part-time students, at the same time we have students who take care of their bills in school. Managing your resources makes one effective both in business and school; these resources can be money, time, energy, etc. When you are out hustling, know when you need to take a break and study. Setting the right priorities reduces stress and optimizes productivity.
- Adaptability:
I earlier stated that when you go higher, there's a need to change strategy because of the new challenges you may face. This is why you need to adopt adaptability; you need to be flexible to learning new strategies so that you'll be on your goal for excellence.
- Mindset Mastery:
Success in education demands a positive mindset as explicitly explained above. Cultivate a positive and resilient mindset that sees setbacks as opportunities for growth.
- Collaboration and Support:
No strategy is executed alone. Surround yourself with those going on the same path with you. The colleague I often read with is also a first-class student, we tend to support each other as peers and mentors. When you collaborate with your fellow colleagues who have the same vision, it will enhance your own learning journey.
By embracing these strategic points in education, you empower yourself to scale through rigorous moments with confidence and come out excellent.
