Don't just have one skill; have multiple skills
You see, in this gig economy, your survival will be threatened by having only one skill, especially as a Nigerian. Employers are looking for a Jack of all trades, of course, a master of all.
But don't get it twisted.
I'm not talking about having skills in different sectors.
No!!!
I mean you should be an expert in your niche. It's not enough to be a writer. You should be adept at other complementary skills. If you're a web content writer, you need to have skills in SEO, keyword research, content marketing strategy, and CMS usage. If you're a graphic designer, can you use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and CorelDRAW? How about Sketch, Canva, and Figma? Similarly, if you're a website designer/developer, you need to understand technical SEO and UI/UX.
...you get the gist?
It's okay to start with one, but playing in the big leagues requires more sophistication. It means staying relevant. It means staying up-to-date. Again, "I'm a web content writer" is not enough.
