I know you've had to face a question like this at some point in your life. If that's not the case for you, that's the case for me. Perhaps, the fact that I have an academic background in Finance and some work experience in the field made it easier for me to be faced with such questions a couple of times.
Money holds a value that's very obvious to everyone and for most people, everything they do each day is geared towards exploring ways to increase the money they make. We see the intrinsic value of money and we go far and wide to grow our financial net worth.
Every time I'm faced with the question of; "Can Money Make You Happy?", I try to imagine the alternative of not having money in this present day and time. The alternative of not having money isn't something cool to think about and it's surely not a good thing to experience. Living in poverty reduces the quality of life.
Imagine Parents who want to give their kids quality Education, but they can't even afford to give them decent meals each day. Consequently, they also can't afford the financial requirement it takes to give quality Education to their kid. I'm not even a parent, yet I can imagine the level of sadness that will overwhelm any parent who's placed in that situation.
So, "Yes" is the answer you are looking for. Money can surely make someone happy although it's very important to note that money by itself isn't what makes people happy. For the most part, it is believed that when money gets in the hands of a wise person, it can be used in ways that will improve the quality of life of the person and this will subsequently bring forth happiness.
Having Money, especially a sufficient amount of it, will make it so much easier to take care of your needs and that of those around you. Even if you can be happy when hungry with no idea of where your next meal will come from, gaining wealth will most likely make you happier.
Can someone still be unhappy despite being rich?
You bet! Certain things about life can make someone sad even when the person is incredibly rich. Things like the death of a loved one, depression, and betrayal from someone special. This is what people consider when they say that "Money can't buy happiness".
It shows that someone's happiness is not completely tied to their financial position. It is an emotion and there is more to it than what being rich can provide. However, we can individually weigh the Ups and Downs on a scale and decide for ourselves what we would rather choose.
For me, the alternative which is 'not having money' is something I can fairly imagine and I know it's a rough road to go down. That's why the hustle and bustle of life is on the list of my priorities. I'm relentless in my attempt to build wealth and I believe that an improved wealth can help give me a more improved standard of life.
