I received this beautiful gift from @enginewitty back in October. This began with a post I wrote about the previous issue 2021 Samoa 2 Tala Pacific Mermaid. earlier this summer. It was in the comments section where I also shared the release of the 2022 version I knew would be hugely popular with my stacking Hive sisters.

This coin was on my instantly on my watch list and I have made inquiries with my retailers north of the border. Witty caught on and alluded to a surprise coming in the mail. I consider this my Day 8 12 Days of Christmas wish fulfilled by the 'Great Pumpkin'. 🎃
Metamorphosis
The ear piercing whistle filled the air immediately followed the pronouncement. “Ship master aboard!” A moment ago I was watering my thirsty house plants when I was, without warning, whisked away back aboard the Storm Crow Redux. I found myself watering a capstan. I put down the watering can next to the capstan and acted confident as if this odd task had some important object lesson to the crew, perhaps at a later time. Amused, the crew responded in acknowledgement and then went about their duties. The sun was just coming up with the sounds of wailing of gulls amidst the rhythmic waves. Glancing around the ship I was back in the familiar waters of Western Samoa. This meant only one thing, this had to be Precious' own doing.
While she was giddy about her latest Scottsdale release of her 2022 Samoa 2 Tala silver coin she came with something up her sleeve, if she had one.
She knew I was curious to understand what her culture was like beneath the waves, a long ancient civilization cleverly concealed around myth, legend and the occasional drunken sailor. Precious’ eye had a hint of mischief and grinned as she pulls out an ancient Grecian jar from her satchel. “It’s a little bit against our rules but…” then pops it’s cork. “…for a friend!”
For the last few millennia the Merfolk have time to time accosted surviving sailors into the capital city of Atlantis for interrogation purposes. It wasn’t enough to have human ships, junk and garbage sink down for the Mer-Thinkers to comb through in order to come to certain conclusions about their human counterparts. And there will be a point where the Merfolk will have to confront the ignorant humans for their culture of littering upon their homes, gardens and seas. By accident or design surviving subjects are administered a transformative substance that ‘metaforms’ a human into Merfolk, temporarily, in short a Meta-Mer. There is another compound that could make that transformation permanent but Precious, was somewhat mum on that topic.
“It’s a little more than just goo that our Gnomeville friends had originally traded for some hundreds of years ago, the base is an extract from a deep ocean arthropod, Celtic witch hazel, a certain Floridian mushroom, and a dash of Lemon balm or wild Cayman Cinnamon for aroma.”
Precious applied the substance on my forehead and corresponding dab on my temples. It felt like cold cream at first without any immediate effects as of yet, “Now, think with a porpoise,” she chuckled.
“You mean ‘like a Dolphin’ as in my current HIVE status.” I replied.
“You have to envision it Raven and you find it’s also great for your complexion since my recipe of this includes…” Precious’ voice slowed and deepened. The sounds of crew, gulls, surf reverberated into a hollowed swirl as if every sound was filtered through a giant conch shell.
The masts of the Storm Crow seemed to come alive as their life force aura outline their original form of mighty Fir trees. The oak floorboards and rails became green and alive, their gentle creaking almost forming indistinguishable words. The ombre pastel sky was filled with a kaleidoscope of life energy dancing in the air.
Then it all went black.
I like black.
I came back to conscience. I lay on the open deck staring into the familiar masts of my ship. Precious’ face appeared over me, “You okay Raven? Let me sit you up.”
The dizziness quickly subsides, “Whoa what a trip, the closest thing to that experience were those little mushrooms at the last Rammstein concert several years ago…” Yet something felt different.
Sitting up my legs appeared fused together, covered in continuous silver dollar sized black scales starting at the hips below the navel and ending to a shimmery silver fluke laid out between my black fuzzy slippers.
Precious grinned again only wider, “Oh my, I guess there is a little unpredictable element as far as the process of transformation is concerned, I guess this is a first for you Vampire hybrids.”
“Uh and, what’s that Precious?”
“Heh heh heh, you got bat fish wings!”
