I stop ever so often in my tracks when I'm working or just being about my daily life to wonder about what the end goal is for me in this corporate world. I'm making money and saving and I have what I would like money to do for me even though I don't have the amount I need for that to happen yet, so I keep working some more.
At the moment, I am dreaming of owning a home of my own. I'm 27 and no one supports me financially. Not in the past three years. I pay my rent and bills myself and sometimes help my family when necessary. However, paying my rent each month hurts me when I think of how much that money could go into buying a cheap and livable house in Ukraine.
One thing I don't want to do is pay a down payment and have to cling on to working a corporate job for 20 years to pay off that loan. That's the dream my family in Ukraine have for me but I cannot imagine living off the uncertainty of another person's business to fund my life. If the company I work for shuts down or sacks me in a worse case scenario, I don't want to worry about anything. I think it's financially irresponsible to have one source of livelihood and risk such a thing. This is why I am on hive to diversify my income.
My job currently pays me more that the average junior developer in this country(Ukraine) even though that's not what I do. This is why when I started earning this much, my daily obsession with learning programming began to wane. I don't love programming as much as I love the idea of the money I could make from it, and status of course. If I could make that much without the overworking and the politics and drama in tech, I would not care to continue in tech. At the moment, art for me seems to be a viable option and this is why I'm pursuing it wholeheartedly. It's fun, makes me very happy, it feeds my creative drive and makes me money, so why not?
So a house is definitely something I would love to own soon. It would make all the saving a concrete thing. I am also saving to invest in projects. I'm on the hunt for who to delegate to, what crypto to buy and hold and really trying to get myself financially literate because I really, really do not want to be left in the corporate world waking each day with the prospect of a 7 hour work day and the occasional holiday. I don't think that is life. It's stifling. I've been working for three years in total like this, and it's beginning to make me irritable, so I know it's time for a change.
I am saving to be able to be the owner of my time. To be able to do things I like when I want. I want more time to explore other things. I used to have so much time before but had little money to explore. Now I have more money and less time and I want to feel more like an owner of this time resource than a frugal dispenser.
I hope to be able to travel when I want, to help my family more and start an art business somehow. Or any other business I like. I know that I'm a very curious person and that latching onto something new and profitable is something I seem to be lucky about and all will turn out well in the end.
