As of now, 75000 people have pledged not to pay the October 1st electricity bill in the UK, as a way of protesting the increase in the rates. This comes as inflation is affecting the people's budgets so it is becoming difficult for the common people in the UK to afford all the bills.
Although this seems to be an interesting form of civil disobedience, it would really need much more people in order to be effective. Also, not paying the bills does not address the energy scarcity and the poor state of the supply chains. The government, make appease the public, however, the underlying problems remain. Some countries prefer to enact temporary subsidies before having the people pay for it. This solution, can be effective only if temporary.
