Social media is part of our daily life but while some use it for entertainment there are people who are using it to assassinate people’s crypto wallet using these social media platforms. Today I am going to discuss about the scam that is going on on social media especially on Instagram and TikTok where people are becoming a victim of the scam and ending up losing their wallets to the scammer.
So this scam is actually named ClickTok, and it is a combination of phishing attack, a malware delivery, and a fake storefront. So phishing attack is used to steal the login credential of a person, malware delivery is used where they somehow agree the person to install a trojanized app, and fake storefronts are the stores which are looking similar to TikTok shop, but they are actually the scam store.
Now, let us understand how this scam actually works. So, first, the scammers run fake ads on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Then, they use AI-generated videos to impress the common people as well as the influencers. That is how they approach the victim.
Now the victims are actually redirected to a fraudulent website where they are asked about their login credentials or they are asked to download an app which is infected with the malware and in either of these two cases they end up losing their data.
People get impressed to download these apps or login to these types of websites because there are limited time offers shown to them which are very appealing and the payment they have to do is in crypto.
So once they are on the website or the app where they see the limited time offers, they try to purchase it obviously because that was why they went there and once they reach the payout section, they have to pay using crypto which is where they get trapped finally.
So what can you do to make sure that you are not part of such type of scam? So follow these points:
Don't click links from unknown ads or messages which look appealing, more appealing than normal.
Double check the domain names you are entering.
Never send crypto to unknown wallets and use official social media handles be it TikTok or Instagram.
Any suspicious ad or video you see be it AI generated or a normal one immediately report it to the Instagram official or TikTok official.
The reason why they are targeting people on social media is quite simple. Because people use social media for the most of the time. From common to professional people, we are all on social media and that is the best place to target the victim. And it is our responsibility to learn about how to recognize whether something is scam or genuine. It is not a big deal. We can always do that. So educate yourself on that.

So, first thing, never ever go on a suspicious website and use your Web3 wallet, because that suspicious website can be trojanized, or it can be a phishing website that will actually compromise your wallet. This is one of the most common that people fall for and lose their money in to.
Second of all, always use official crypto decentralized exchanges for trades. Never go on an unofficial website no matter what. The chances you will lose your money on official pages are less likely.
Third of all, keep your long term holdings separately in a separate wallet, and use your primary wallet with lesser funds. This is a good practice most of the people do.
Always double verify the URL you are entering, especially in such type of cases where you have got impressed by an offer or deal which is very eye catching. So in these cases, make sure you just double check the URL properly or you will end up losing the money.
So these are some tips or lessons I wanted to give before we go off and go away. But still there are a lot of things to learn and you should not wait for anyone else to come and give those lessons to you. Your best teacher is you yourself and if you are ready to learn, you don't need a teacher.
You will simply explore the internet and get to know majority of the things you should know. So go ahead, use the internet in the wise manner, in the best manner and you will see that no scams will be able to harm you in future. Always make sure that you are prepared on your side.
