Hello my dear Hivean friends!
Since I started my Hive journey in 2017, I’ve often wondered why teens and young adults haven’t flocked to this platform.
Stormed the Hive front, embarked on a social media journey with us, and thrown their talent on our tables, all while earning crypto along the way.
While money might not be the primary motivator for us seasoned Hiveans, it can be a strong attraction for younger users, who often seek ways to fund their interests and lifestyles...
Despite these opportunities, young people haven't gravitated to Hive as I expected. This got me thinking: If we want Hive to grow, we need to understand what the younger generation is looking for in a social media platform. After all, they are the future. And by engaging them, we could be nurturing the next wave of innovative minds on Hive.
If these kids are about anything, it's about money. This doesn't mean they're all money hungry wolves, but many of our kids want good shoes, trendy clothes, pocket money, money for outings, and a lot of those same kids seem to think that money grows on trees and that their parents have never-ending funds in their bank accounts. An ATM machine is just a magic cash machine to some...
For us hardened Hiveans, money is only a nice side effect, and not a mandatory thing on this platform, but I have to admit that the earnings was what attracted me to it at first. Until I saw the huge potential, that is.
The thing is, most kiddos have seamlessly integrated TikTok, Instagram, and other YouTube shorts into their daily lives. Some of those kids might even dream of some kind of recognition or even stardom on one of them. It's not impossible when hundreds or even thousands of videos go viral every day. I have a friend here who's daughter had 1 million followers on TikTok by the age of 16. She's 19 now and makes more money than me and her parents combined...
But the harsh reality is that this type of fame and fortune is only for a few of them, definitely not all of them.
My youngest son recently started creating stop-motion videos, very simply using a blob of clay that he forms into little figures. But somehow it is becoming something brilliant along the way. Or maybe I'm just saying that because he's my son. But either way, it's something anyone can do, if they know how. So he came up with the idea to make instruction videos to show others how he does it. Another great idea! He wants to make YouTube videos, and now he's already dreaming about his first mansion...(and mine, his manager haha). Anyway...These videos can be put right here, on Hive, where it might have a completely different impact. Maybe it won't go viral in the traditional kind of way, but it will get attention, almost for sure. Something that's a lot less likely on one of the other platforms.
And maybe, somewhere along the way, he will visit another Hivefest, meet other kids his age irl and on the platform, (and Vikings) and figure out what an amazing place this actually is.
By understanding what teens and young adults want in a social media platform, we can help Hive grow in ways we haven’t even imagined yet. And then hopefully, and most likely, some of that younger generation will turn out to be the new generation of smart cookies like @blocktrades, @arcange, @stoodkev, and @khaleelkazi, or business masterminds (and Vikings) like @theycallmedan, @starkerz, a Hive face (and model) like @crimsonclad and others I may have missed. Not to mention the artists, writers, film makers, comedians, and entrepreneurs who will continue to make Hive a vibrant, colorful community.
Last year at Hivefest, I was telling some people about my bewilderment about the fact that teens and young adults aren't here yet. I came up with a plan to find out what it is they actually want.
Since my teens and my 22-year-old daughter have their own networks of friends, it would be easy enough to set up a panel.., online or irl, and ask those girls and boys the questions we need to ask them. And so on. @khaleelkazi was interested to hear what they have to say. So am I. And I'm sure many others are too. So my question is: What should I include in those questionnaires? I need your help!
I have a few questions already:
- What is your favorite social media platform and why?
- What is your least favorite social media platform, and why?
- On which platform do you spend the most of your time?
- On which one the least?
- If you could change anything about your favorite platform, what would it be?
I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! If you have any ideas for additional questions I should ask, please drop them in the comments. Your input will help shape Hive's future and ensure it resonates with the next generation. Together, let’s make Hive the go-to place for young creators and innovators!
Together, we can ensure Hive evolves to meet the needs of all generations.
Hopefully, we'll have their answers soon..
