And today I'm chuffed to say we've just pumped another 10 Hive directly into our Hive Power. Finally our account is growing!!!
Now, for any newbies out there or those still scratching their heads wondering what all the fuss is about, let's talk about this magical thing called staking that helps give us more magical internet money.
Staking
In the wider crypto world staking is essentially locking up your cryptocurrency to support the operations of a blockchain network. It's akin to putting your money in a super-powered savings account that also helps run the internet. In return for your commitment, you get rewarded with more crypto. It's a win-win!
On Hive, we've got our own special name for it ~ Powering Up.
It's the same principle as staking, but with a distinctly Hive flavour. When you power up your liquid HIVE tokens, they transform into Hive Power (HP). This isn't just about watching a number go up (though that's pretty satisfying, I won't lie!).
So what are the benefits of staking (or powering up, as we lovingly call it on HIve)?

Earning Potential ~ This is the big one! By holding Hive Power, you earn a share of the network's rewards. Just staking will earn you around 3% APR. But when you actively vote you earn around 10% APR in the form of curation rewards. It's like getting paid to participate and support the community. It's a consistent way to grow your stack.
Increased Influence ~ More Hive Power means more voting power. Your upvotes carry more weight, meaning you can better support the content and creators you love, helping them earn more too. It's like having a louder voice in the Hive choir! But let's not forget about governance. You can vote for Hive witnesses and Hive-Engine witnesses and also proposals from the DHF. The more your HP is, the greater weight your vote has!
Resource Credits (RCs) ~ This is the unsung hero of Hive Power. RCs are what allow you to perform transactions on the blockchain – posting, commenting, upvoting, transferring tokens, playing games etc. The more HP you have, the more RCs you get, meaning you can engage more freely without hitting those annoying resource limits. No more waiting around like a digital snail!
MMO Tip ~ Delegate some RCs to newbies so they can post and comment at will.
Security and Stability ~ By locking up your HIVE (to fully unlock or unstake takes 13 weeks) you're contributing to the overall security and decentralization of the Hive blockchain. You're showing you are investing in its success.
Long-Term Growth ~ Powering up our Hive encourages a long-term mindset. Instead of constantly cashing out, increasing your KE and being called a leech, you're building a foundational asset that grows with the network. We call it looking after our digital money tree!
