Hello Hive
Growing up in a large family I understand the financial challenges involved in trying to put everything together. Expenses for food, clothing and shelter.
Maybe our parents weren't aware as African cultures have taught them that Children especially male child are like weapons in the hands of their father.
The number of children you have determine your strength in the society.
This made them to go extra mile to marry more than one wife so that they can give birth to as many children from both wives.
Where one wife becomes too weak to bear children, the other takes over from her.
Although raising these kids at that time wasn't too much of a burden since there was more land space and these children do not go to school at all, all they grow to learn is farming, hunting and trading.
And the trend was found in my family line as well, from my fore fathers down to my Grandpa who also lived that exact same life.
However, in this century, resources for raising Children are not readily available.
Lands have become fewer by day and it takes great pain to bear the financial responsibility of one child.
It is a modern world and you have to educate your children, Paying for school fees, feeding, shelter and others.
The responsibility of one child alone amounts to millions hence when preparing to have more than one child in a marriage you have to be fully aware of this financial burdens it will incure
My dad managed to have 7kids from his marriage to single wife, but to tell the truth be is now retired and not able to bear our financial burdens.
In this situation we have been taught to cater for ourselves right from when we are 14 years of age.
This is the norm in this part of the world, once children are above 10 years they begin to hawk foods and other products for sale so that they can bringing in funds to assist the parents in keeping the homes together.
In some settings older children have to pay the bills for their younger ones and that is why am still here raising my fathers kids 🤗😃
We must be very careful to discontinue this and put an end to this menace.
Thank science for the breakthrough with family planning. Helping parents to enjoy their mutual relationships without these turning into more children.
The government and hospitals are working tirelessly to educate the populace on how to reduce this financial burden but is everyone willing to comply since we have cultures and traditions that go against every scientific inventions.
Better still is it that people around here prefer to suffer while having as many children kids and remain in a poor and struggling state all through their lives?
What are the reasons why people still bear heavy financial burdens despite scientific interventions.
