Hello beautiful people! I am glad you have come visiting my page once again.
I want you to know that I appreciate and value the time you spend reading my post. So, thank you for being here today.
Please Forgive Me...
I am sorry because I know the tone of this particular post may sound different... but please bear with me.
Here's What Happened
So, a few days ago, a bill was proposed by some higher ups, it passed the first and second reading of the National Assembly, and was signed into law by the Number One citizen of my country... And the whole process took less than five days (I am just trying to be very generous here because everything happened within three days actually 🤔).
Very commendable for a bill to be passed into law within a short time, right? Well, I will mark it as commendable if only it was something that could alleviate the suffering of my countrymen, but no. Abolishing one national anthem and replacing it with another cannot do anything to improve the financial situation of the masses.
The Cry For Increase In Minimum Wage
It is no longer news that between May 29, 2023 and today 30th May, 2024, the price of almost everything in Nigeria has more or less tripled, and this is not an exaggeration. Whether it is groceries or gas, clothes or medicines, building materials or home appliances... prices have steadily been on an unprecedented increase.
School fees are being increased for all levels of education, from KG to Higher institution. Learning materials are becoming more and more expensive to afford. Yet, with all this inflation, there is no corresponding increase in the salaries and wages of the citizens.
Misplaced Priority
I believe the first thing that should be given attention is the welfare of the people. Why is there no sense of urgency when it comes to improving the earning of the people? Why do some people seem not to be touched by the plight of the people they are supposed to be leading?
Unfortunately, we can keep asking these questions day in day out, and not get any answer from anyone, anywhere.
But If I Were to Choose...
I believe the welfare of the people should come first. I believe the plea for minimum wage increase should be treated with the urgency it deserves.
Businesses are suffering because the people that would patronise them are having financial difficulties.
Private schools are feeling the heat, as the parents are struggling to pay their children's/ward's school fees. Yes, I know because I am a school owner.
After All Said And Done...
We are law abiding citizens. Therefore, we have started teaching the kids how to sing the New National Anthem (or rather the very first one) as we have been commanded.
I personally taught the anthem to the kids and the teachers today, so from tomorrow the teachers will continue until everyone can do it perfectly.
In Summary
What we need right now in my country is solution to our financial situation so that we can take care of our families and businesses. We are already singing the new anthem, but those in leadership need to look into the problems that people are facing.
Thank you for your patience in reading to the end. Please share your thoughts in the comments and I will get back to you. See you soon.
