The crypto currency market cap, has now surpassed 2 Trillion USD (source coinmarketcap.com). This is phenomenal growth over the last few years, and is mostly attributed to the growth in bitcoin price, but also the recent rise in altcoins.
Comparison with large Equity markets
Whilst its not fair to compare currency market cap and equity market caps, as its not comparing apples and oranges, it is quite interesting to do though, and it just goes to show how important cryptocurrencies are in the context of the broader financial sector.
I have constructed a table with all the stock exchange and cryptocurrency market caps that are over 1 trillion USD for comparison, shown below:
The source of the market capitalisation numbers is below:
Stock exchanges - World Federation of Exchanges- Data effective 28 Feb 2021 (https://focus.world-exchanges.org/issue/april-2021/market-statistics)

Thoughts on Market Cap
Clearly cryptocurrencies have reached mainstream market capitalisation sizes, with the total Market ranking 14th, and bitcoin ranking 18th. This means that progressively, funds managers can't ignore this asset class, and you will start to see more and more mainstream adoption, otherwise they will be left behind. This can only be good news for early adopters like all of this community on LEOfinance, and more broadly hive.
