Currently! The economy situation in the state I reside, Ilorin, Kwara state to be precised is in somewhat of what we could consider to be in jeopardy or worst still can be regarded to be an economy melt down. I don't have a clue maybe that is how it's in all other states in the country. Presently! The reason for the economy melt down or slow down is because of the popular Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU)strike that's trending on every lip of all the citizens living in this state. This is because all sectors in the state are feeling the impact which this industrial strike is having on the people who live there in. The normal thing is when ASUU are on strike, that means almost every students will have to go back to their base until when the strike will be called off.
What is Industrial strike and it relationship with Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Industrial strike is the process whereby workers are showing dissatisfaction thereby restricting their selves from working. Of course,ASUU are on industrial strike presently. This is a pressure group body that's established to fight for the right of the academic staff which consisted of both senior and junior lecturers of any federal and state universities belonging to this pressure group fighting for some rights and bonuses from the federal government of Nigeria.
It's being 7 months that universities lecturers have been on strike, which is the longest ASUU strike in the history of Nigeria.
What impacts is the industrial Academy staff union of universities' strike is having on the economy of Ilorin metropolis?
Obviously! How the industrial ASUU strike is having effect on the economy of Ilorin metropolis is a simple and straightforward thing. So far the lecturers are refusing to work, it's certain that some students of the popular University of Ilorin, which is located in the Ilorin south local government of Kwara state, will go back to their base as I have mentioned earlier. Thereby reducing the population of people living in Ilorin metropolis.
Let's assume you are someone who involve in transportation business, you can't compare your take home when the students are around and when the students are not. That doesn't stop there, since such person's take home is reduced, he will have to cut down his financial spending to balance things up.
Another set of people that will feel the impact of the industrial strike are the businessmen and women,I mean people who buy and sell. Once there is Industrial strike, automatically your sales will be reduced because of the absent or reduction of students in Ilorin metropolis.
Furthermore, talking about the lecturers who the core reason for this Industrial strike, which they have not been working and have been paid for 7 good months. It's a trying for many of them, unless if some of them indulge in one or two businesses that is fetching income for them.
Even myself,as I am typing this i am feeling the impact of the industrial strike because I too run a small poultry business. When students are around, I know how my business move fast but these days before I would be able to sell off a batch of Broiler birds is hell of a problem. I had to be calling, advertising and forcing Eateries, frozen business owners to come and buy. Unlike when studenta are on campus,my business moves faster because students are mostly the ones that economy stability of Ilorin metropolis lives on.
