The incident happened when I was about 10 years old. I had understood something, something had bothered me, but I could not determine what exactly it was. I did not know that I would not return as myself and that I was afraid for my life from now on.
Some time ago, my uncles came to my house and brought me a doll as a gift. If that was a doll for Christ’s sake! It was one of the ugliest dolls I had ever seen in my life! Long brown hair badly cut, brown eyes without any snobbery, expressionless, pale, with a big nose and a small mouth with strange lips ... They explained to me that they had found it in a small antique shop, and that they immediately thought about me that “such a doll I should have”!
I did not like her at all, but I did not say anything to my uncles so as not to hurt them. However, after they left, I started not paying any attention to the doll and when I was, it was just to make fun of her, to throw her away, to try to get her head out, to paint her even uglier and to cut the already "stupid" hair ugliest and so much more!
Well, let’s get back to now, because you're probably wondering what happened!
My family and I went to visit the uncles who had brought me the doll as a gift. They were staying out of town, in a small village, and we would spend the night there. My older brother thought It was a waste of time being there, but I didn’t agree with him! I loved them very much and I also loved the countryside - I found it magical and mysterious.
When finally we were there, the afternoon I was playing with the doll they had given me as a gift, which I had already named as "Mary". I took her with me to honor them, not because I liked her of course ... As I was playing with her in the yard, I noticed that she was no longer there. As if she had disappeared. I wanted her; I could not tell my uncles that I had lost her! I would not go inside the house until I found her. Suddenly, it was like I had seen something. I could see something that looked like "Mary", but on the other hand, it could not be, it was something strange ... A walking doll? A doll that urges me to follow her.
As strange as I was, as scared as I was, I went in the same direction. It was dark. Very dark! And suddenly I felt something. Something I cannot explain. I felt the doll, I felt that it touched me and then ... suddenly I could not move. I tried, but nothing ... I sat there for a while, and then after some time, a bright light shone on my face. I saw my mom and dad and my brother with the flashlight on. They looked at me with a strange expression, as if they could not recognize me, as if they did not see me or anything like that. I tried to speak but I could not.
I felt small, smaller than usual. I saw them as if they were giants! They picked me up carefully and talked to each other. They said they found "Mary", but I was not "Mary", It’s me, it’s me - I tried in vain to shout! They took me home, cleaned me and put me to bed. I still could not move, had I broken something? Did an accident happen, and I do not remember? I looked down trying to see if anything had changed on me. Then I noticed that I was wearing the "Mary’s" doll dress, and my arms and legs were pale like milk. There I realized that I was "Mary". How could I tell my parents, how should I explain that I am NOT "Mary", when I could not say a word? I heard the front door open and close. Laughter and joy were heard from below. Until the door of my bedroom opened, and I saw ... ME! The girl was talking and laughing, while I was missing from her body, MY body!
She was talking to me, she was wondering why I was lost, she was calling me stupid. She took me down to the dinner table while I watched them eat my favorite foods. Of course, I could not have any of these.
As I was surrounded by my family still eating, I thought to myself, 'Who am I? How did this happen? Who changed me? HOW!? It's not possible! "Who is the one who took my place?" Everyone was talking and laughing about different things. They watched some old movies. My uncles also did not realize what had happened. Only I was suffered! When it was time to sleep, SHE, ME until now, the little girl who had me, took me back to my bedroom upstairs.
She put me between the sheets and then whispered in my plastic ear:
"Now you will understand what it is like to be me"…
