The sei mainnet launch the other and it was kinda a disaster as the community got an airdrop they weren’t expecting, they got a far lower airdrop and the community is already on the no airdrop no community mode as a form to show their disapproval with the amount and value of airdrop they got. These days it seems like the progress of a project depends on the value of airdrop they give to their community. Some of the projects that ended up being quite successful in the crypto space, were quite successful because they made their community happy with airdrop. Look at the Aptos community, they rewarded the community and the community became loyal to them. Look at the Optimism and Arbitrum community, the two projects are striving as community is standing strong behind them.
But looking at the other side, it’s a little discouraging that communities have to tie their loyalty to airdrops, communities are not focusing on the true utility of the project anymore, rather than how much they can benefit from the project. This is putting too much pressure on projects, projects will have to raise huge amount of money from fundings just so they can distribute high valued airdrops to their community, so they don’t end up being a failed project like SUI or soon to be SEI. At the same time, it’s a little fair that communities that dedicate their time and resources testing and giving feedbacks to project devs should be compensated for their job well done.
Now that the SEI mainnet has been launched, the domain name has launched as well. You can have a .sei name now, although this service is provided by space ID, the naming service for the .bnb and the .arb domain names. The moment I saw the .sei name available and I realised that I have to pay minimum of $5/year for a .sei name, I lost interest, because in all honesty, I was interacting with the SEI testnet for the airdrop. After the disappointment, I lost interest in the project. I think a lot of people lost interest in the project too as no one is talking about the .sei name as I expected.
