I logged into Ebay a couple of days back for the first time in over a year, and having forgotten my password I had to go via an email reset.
This meant I had to check my hotmail emails, which is an old email address I rarely use but is annoyingly still linked to some old accounts such as Ebay.
I noticed this rather horrible message, from 'myself'...
It's basically telling me I've been hacked and it pasted the password to one of my accounts and then if I didn't send $400 to a random BTC wallet there'd be some unsavoury consequences.
The thing is that password was exposed in a data breach many many years ago, since dealt with my me, again many many years ago, but anyway...
Clearly this moron has got hold of that data and written a script to email everyone making it look like they're emailing themselves - the from address on closer inspection was different of course!
All in all a nasty little scam, but at least it's a reminder of me to change all my passwords again - that is overdue TBF!
