In recent time, non-custodial wallet giant Ledger had decided to introduced the recovery medium of a seed phrase in their hardware wallet, which most users found not appealing to the crypto space. Lots of people had seen it has a bad idea.
The wallet giant has come out several times to support the idea, and try to convince the public about the new recovery system.
While all this misunderstanding is still ongoing, Ledger has officially released the white paper for seed recovery.
The white paper, which contains about six(6) main chapters that explains in details, how the recovery pattern is going to work.
Algorithms, Initialization, Backup, Restore, Delete and A Note on Identity Verification.
Via the twit made yesterday, Charles Guillemet encourages developers, researchers, and crypto-enthusiasts, to read the white paper, and feel free to bring a feed back.
From the image above, i made the screenshot after reading it. It was a total scrap, and i still don't know why users should be using a normal backup mode for something that is very vital.
Using date of birth, or any other physical related recovery medium can easily be guess by others, which can endanger users seed phrase.
Opinion
Personally, i don't buy this idea of seed recovery, as it don't even make any sense for a non-custodial wallet. This act might see users switching over to other non-custodial wallets.
In Conclusion
Most users have not been able to see ledger points of view, and ledger has not also been able to see it users point of view. It is obvious that they are not going back on their word, and the recovery medium is here to stay.
