"We don't have a fixed target, but roughly we need $100,000 to work for another year," the project said, adding that they have no other choice due to low demand for the service among users.
OpenBazaar was launched in 2014 and is one of the oldest decentralized macroplaces on the market. It allows buyers and sellers to close transactions in a decentralized network and does not rely on centralized servers, as Amazon, for example, does.
Since its launch, the platform has generated approximately $44 million in transactions, a small amount compared to the turnover of the darknet markets, which Chainalysis estimates at $5-15 million per day.
The OpenBazaar-owned messenger application and Haven wallet will also be stopped on October 1. In the near future, users will be provided with instructions on how to withdraw funds. By the time of publication, the amount of donations received by OpenBazaar was about $13,000.
