Have you ever created images in needlework like embroidery? It’s detailed, intricate work. Done well, it reflects detail and layers of depth we find in nature.
Foliage on plants and trees are not just for decoration. They’re an intricate part of their life system. They play an intricate role in transforming light and sun into energy, known as photosynthesis, needed for life.
Many plants and trees help to provide us with food for survival. Without their resilient nature we’d not be fed. Some might say, well, we’d just eat meat. Without plants, meat food sources would not be here.
Nothing reminds us of the interconnected nature of everything on the planet than the relationship between nature and people. At our very core, we’re part of nature, even as we so often recklessly destroy it.
While plants are engaged in photosynthesis, generating energy for their life cycle, they are also acting as air purification units. This past summer when wildfire smoke blanketed the area I live in, I experienced headache and strain on my lungs until an air purification unit arrived. What a difference it made. Image plants doing that as a natural part of their life.
Spending some time under the foliage of a lovely tree on a hot day is a cooling and relaxing way to deal with summer’s heat. Trees and shrubs can also help reduce noise pollution in our busy world. Their presence helps our mental health and well-being.
Birds, animals, insects, fauna and more are drawn to the foliage canopy of plants and trees for safety, shelter, food and more. In some ways, it’s almost feels like foliage is the linchpin in the connectedness between every living organism.
Notice what fuels foliage to do its work? The photosynthesis that feeds it energy. Where would we all be without that source energy?
