The Hive Business Garden: where projects can be publically displayed, nourished, cultivated, and pruned to help them reach their full potential
I decided that I wanted to create a new community on Hive after reading a post by @acidyo about the large number of valueless and smaller number of valuable tokens on Hive-Engine.
I thought the name was important as it would be symbolic of the intent or purpose of the community. And at first I thought of the name Hive Garden, which defined the purpose of the community well. But the name seems to dainty for me. It could be my Y chromosome and testosterone level or it could be that I am not talking about tomatoes or eggplant, but instead businesses, so I changed the name to Hive Business Garden, but possible alternative names include Hive Business Incubator and I gave some thought to it just being The Incubator, that’s still being mulled over in my mind.

The derivation of the name.
Definition: Garden.
- The common or scientific definition:
A garden is a planned space, usually outdoors, set aside for the cultivation, display, and enjoyment of plants and other forms of nature.
source
- My definition:
- A planned place for the display and cultivation of business projects on Hive. Specifically where ideas can be listed for recognition and potentially be made better by feedback.*
An essential function in my mind;
- A place where projects can be publically listed, so that the Hive Community knows they exist.*
The last definition or purpose is the risky one, as any such collection could also include scam projects. But in a truly decentralized society it should be left to the community to decide the value of projects, not a listor or provider of a venue for the exchange of ideas. But deferring to the basic Hive Community limits in the Hive Whitepaper, as the Garden would exist on Hive, and thus be subject to it's rules.
The Hive Business Garden: a place for recognition and cultivation: a place to grow.
First, organization of the list
- The goal of course would be an unbiased, decentralized listing of projects here.
Admittantly centralized initally, in that one or more persons from a small group would be responsible for it. But decentralized in intent, as no restrictions beyond the basic ones embraced by the Hive community whitepaper would be employed. But I think this form of centralization can be overcome by technology which allows users to input company names, and retrospective pruning of spam names can be done by humans or technology.
The arrangement of the list would be some basic organization on purpose to remove judgement; such as the list would simply be alphabetized. I thought briefly about listing by age, as that would be simpler; as I would add things as they requested a listing. But that would make navigating the index a nightmare over time, so I think the alphabetized version would be the most efficient, as a search tool
The idea is that the crucible would be a community where people post about their businesses, and the pinned post would be a listing of all the businesses and projects who posted in the crucible.
Second, the goal or purpose
- The second goal or idea behind The Garden would be a place where the community could give business creators feedback.
- The first function, to let the community know the business exuists is important, as it provides a commonly known place for people to go and learn about the huge number of buinesses on Hive.
- The second function is also integral, as it provides a place where the accumulative wisdom of the community can be focused on a single business or a set number of buinesses each day.
- I am currently thinking that each day, a post would be published with a list of 3-5 busineses, and a brief synopsis written by the creator with links for more information, but detailed enough that community members could provide meaningful feedback.
- This would be based on submission, as each business could submit a synopsis of 200-400 words.
- This synopsis could be two parts, first a brief introduction and second a brief explanation of the business strategy or a brief explanation of token economics. Both coould include links, but must provide backlinks back to the community.
- So people can give feedback on what the business owner sees as a crucial strategy for their success.
- And the community could point out things the business developer may have missed.
- In two words, the Business Garden would provide recognition and feedback, to help cultivate Hive businesses.
