Focused Engagement
I am no expert, so I look to others for inspiration, and explanation.
This is defined by textbooks as a form of engagement having the goal of building a network of a diverse group of people and a larger number of people. This is sometimes summarized as Deeper and Wider.
.
Our fearless leader
- @khaleelkazi always says he is building bridges across blockchains to build the community deeper and wider.
Our Leaderboard Leaders
- @taskmaster4450 and @jfang003 always vote lots of times for lots of people.
A daunting task
- At first glance the task seems to large, and our abilities to small.
So I came up with a simple definition and a simple plan.
Define Deeper More upvotes or comments to more people.
Define Wider More different people.
I did this three ways:
Comment on posts.
Comment on comments.
Find new authors who comment on my posts.
So how did it work?
Upvotes given in 7 days
- 336 upvotes to others : 336 is my new benchmark to beat
Number of Different Authors
- 126 different authors : 126 different authors is my best
Ranking #6
- My overall point score 4059
- This is probably one of my highest rankings ever, at number 6.
- Hopefully you notice my biggest improvement was outward facing, involving engaging with others. I call it the Trifecta
The Trifecta an outward or engagement directed goal
336 upvotes to others
126 different authors
164 comments
Why these three?
- First, they are all outward or engagement markers, not productivity markers.
- Second, they are community promoting:
Upvotes to others = more rewards given to more people
Different Authors = more people rewarded
Together they mean building community deeper and wider.
Tips
- When you comment on my post, I am likely to Click on your picture/avatar to read your latest post.
- When you comment on my posts, people who read my posts also see your name, so it becomes familiar to everyone following me. So they may upvote or comment on your comment, plus click your picture/avatar to read your posts.
- My feed contains the new posts of everyone I follow. That’s also how I find new authors. So be sure to follow me, as I follow most commenters and periodically follow those who show up on my list of new followers.
Last words
- We all dream of topping the leader board.
But that may seem unattainable.
But we can also dream of topping ourselves.
We can all top our previous weeks performance.
We just need a plan.
- A Plan:
- Look at how many comments you gave out last week and divide by seven. That’s the daily goal to beat.
- Look at how many upvotes you gave out last week and divide by seven. That’s the daily goal to beat.
- Look at how many different authors you upvoted last week and divide by seven. That’s the daily goal to beat.
- Now you have a plan and a set of goals.
Zoom out there and Execute
Three clearly defined things to do and three clearly defined numbers to beat. It all starts by topping ourselves.
You don’t have to beat the leaderboard to make a strong and valuable contribution to the community and add real value. You just have to do better then you.
We can all have a goal of beating our previous weeks performance.
My goal this week is to beat me.
How about you? Can you beat you by doing even one better in each of these three categories?
