Hello everyone!
Today a different themed post as I usually rather write about games like Splinterlands or WOO. Lately I was playing around with the idea: How could I contribute to the Hive Ecosystem? I don't have much following on other social media so don't think that will be a viable option. My real life friends are rather anti crypto, so mouth to mouth advertising won't work that well or I would need to put a lot of energy in to convince them. But lately I started to think about guerilla marketing: Why not get some stickers with some basic info and a qr code. I utilize my referral link as the qr code, that way, I can actively follow up on the people who potentially join. I will commit myself to help and guide them to be (more) sure they find their way on a new blogging platform / blockchain.
To be honest, I got this idea while I was scrolling through the OpenGenie platform. For those of you who aren't familiar with this platform, it's some kind of 'marketplace' for wishes. These wishes could be anything. If you're looking for a developer, some graphic design, user testing, any aid,..., you just have to create a wish and hopefully you'll find someone who is willing to help you out. For those who are curious to get to know more about OpenGenie, you can check out my previous guide about OpenGenie.
Guerilla marketing
Guerrilla marketing is an advertising approach that borrows the concept of “guerrilla” warfare, or the element of surprise, to communicate with target audiences. This form of marketing relies on unconventional and inventive displays to elicit wonder or shock and can be especially effective for driving publicity.
Source
I guess quite some people know what guerilla marketing is, but in short, you'll want to be inventive to attract people's attention to your product or service.
I already named what I wanted to do: printing stickers and spreading them around. Is this really innovative? Probably not. Stickers aren't new and there have already been several persons who have made Hive stickers but as I've never seen any in Belgium, I would like to try it out. I see it as a potential quick win to onboard several people. Stickers aren't too expensive so that's great. I won't have to launch a dhf proposal for hundreds of hbd / day. I would rather try out this initiative with 100hbd, but I'll talk more about the financials later on.
Advantages
As said, stickers don't cost too much. I've done a bit of research and for about €100, I could get 500 stickers. Ofcourse if I would buy more than 500, the price/piece would be lower but I think spreading 500 stickers already is a good start. If I would end up accumulating more funds, I'll probably increase the amount.
It's easy to spread these stickers. I am aware it isn't always tolerated to stick stickers in public, but for my work, I come in a lot of places where students gather like in bars. In the toilets of these bars, it's often tolerated to leave a sticker behind. Another option are summer festivals. In my free time, I visit several big music festivals in Belgium and could spread some stickers in the toilets there as well. Probably you're wondering why focusing on toilets? Well, people are often spending quite some time on the toilet. As they are often utilizing their smartphone as well, it's asking less of them to scan the qr code. It's one of the main principles: don't make it too hard for people to discover your product. I know Hive onboarding could improve on that aspect 'wink wink' but that's why I commit myself to actively follow up on my referrals.
Lifetime onboarding is another reason why such stickers are great. Once you stick a sticker, it stays there often several years. On several places, I've seen stickers hanging there already for over 20years, which makes it a cost-effective way of marketing in my opinion.
Financial aspect
As said I would need about $100 to buy 500 stickers. To be exact, it is €93,50. Utilizing the current exchange rate of dollars to euros, this means I would need 100hbd to complete this humble initiative to spread the word about Hive. Hereby a screenshot of the website I would utilize to command the stickers, it's in Dutch but the total price, inclusing the shipment, is mentioned.
As said, I won't be asking for more hbd as needed. I just want to have my expenses covered. Maybe you're wondering: But than you don't get paid anything for your time and effort?
That's true, as mentioned earlier, I will utilize my referral link. That link will add me as a beneficiary to posts the onboarded people will write. That way, I will be paid by the principle: no cure, no pay. If I fail by attracting new people or can't keep them active, than I won't get any advantage. This way, I will be rewarded if I can attract people and let them engage.
As I got the idea while browsing the OpenGenie platform, I am going to launch my idea on their platform. There is a wish available of the @peakd team (the team behind OpenGenie) in which they want to support ideas which would benefit Hive. So besides utilizing the rewards of this post, I hope to acquire some funding through the OpenGenie platform as well.
Conclusion
I am going to command 500 Hive stickers and spread them across Belgian bars and festivals. I ask 100hbd to reimburse the buying of the stickers.
Feedback
As it's the first time I am going to promote Hive in such way, I am always eager to receive feedback. This could be about the idea in general or the design of the sticker or anything else. I am open to feedback and consider it as an opportunity to grow!
Thanks for reading and maybe even an upvote or reblog!
