In the previous post, Why Most Fail On Hive, we discussed how it is important to approach Hive as a business. This struck a chord with many people, both positively and negatively.
For that reason, it is worthy to have a follow up post.
To provide a bit of a TL:DR, having a Hive account means one is on a different level than Web 2.0. Upon arriving on Hive, we enter the world of Web 3.0. This is a completely different animal as compared to the other.
Social media is used mostly for fun. The majority of users are not financial beneficiaries. Those platforms are owned by corporations that see the benefits go to the shareholders. Users tend to get very little of the pie.
There are some content creators who make some money. The problem is this is the smallest of percentages. Twitter doesnt have a reward system as of yet. Facebook might but how many earn an income. YouTube is known for this but only the largest of followings generate any significant money. There is also a minimum requirement before one can even get rewarded.
That is not the case on Hive. People who show up here can earn more than most of the entire Web 2.0 world. Simply by leaving a comment that gets upvoted, one is ahead of most everyone.
Here is another way of looking at it. In all your years on, say, Twitter, how much money did you make? How about Instagram? If you are a creator with a large following, then you are outside the scope of this conversation. However, if you are the epitome of the social media masses, the answer is nothing.
This is the difference with Web 3.0.
An Opportunity
It is worth mentioning this again: Hive is an opportunity.
This means there are no guarantees. People appear to enter this realm and feel entitled. We see it all the time. Why aren't the whales voting for me? How come someone else makes more? My work is good yet nobody notices?
Statements like this show the mindset people have. Do they take the approach on a platform like YouTube? Are people wondering why they aren't rewarded on there for the videos they post? We see people who have hundreds of videos up and, judging by their following, they likely are not making a dime.
YouTube is an opportunity for the smallest sliver of users. However, Hive is an opportunity for everyone. This is something most overlook.
Hence, we have a responsibility. We can either take advantage of it or completely drop the ball. The choice is ours.
Here is where reading the comments from the previous post comes in. Do you know what we get? Excuses. This is what people are conditioned to do..
Making excuses is not taking responsibility. Instead, it is placing blame. Even if the statements are accurate, so what?
We harken back to adopting a mindset of a business owner. This person doesn't have the luxury of blame. Sure the economy might suck. There could well be supply chain issues. Whatever the circumstances, this person shows up and forges ahead. Revenues are required to pay the bills no matter how the business environment is.
Of course, the successful ones are able to navigate the difficulties. Are most doing this on Hive? No. It is simply too hard.
This is why it is an opportunity. It is open to anyone but only a few will take it and make something of it. The majority will show up at a later date complaining "how lucky" others are.
Looking For A Handout
This is what most are doing.
Like many, I am not hard to find on Hive. There is the comment sections of my posts, discord, and Leothreads. In fact, people do periodically hit me up.
Do you know what these are often in reference to?
Will you upvote my content? Please read my article (and presumably upvote it). Please send me money.
In other words, give me. Give me.
Do you know what people haven't asked?
How did I go about becoming a rewarded content creator on Hive? Can you show me ways to improve myself so I can do what you do?
I mean, if wanted to design websites, I might want to talk to someone who is doing it successfully to find out what I need to do. Perhaps there are some skills required or efforts I will have to put forth to achieve the desired goal.
Certainly, we cannot put everyone in this category since there are many posted dedicated to what it takes on Hive. I am sure a lot of people are internalizing some of the concepts and implementing them as much as possible.
Many Different Tiers To Hive
If one door closes, open another one.
There are always challenges in life. When it comes to Hive, this is no longer a one trick pony. There are a lot of things being developed that can enhance one's involvement.
Certainly, content creation is the main focus. That, however, is now multi-faceted. There was a time when the only rewards were HIVE. Now, we see communities developing, many with their own token. Of course, this is unappealing to people since they have no recognizable value.
I would counter that with what is being done to make the token valuable. Here is where building comes in. Is the project expanding and focused upon growth? Most are not. However, there are a few that are consistently grinding.
At the same time, there are other opportunities. Both SpkNetwork and Virtual Smart Contract (VSC) are offering the opportunity to run nodes. While there is a bit of technical skills required, it is set up for the average person. There are also people who can help the non-techies through it.
Then we have games. Splinterlands was (and still is) the champ here. Some made a small fortune off that. However, it is not the only game in town. We see others getting some attention. Not being in that realm, I can't really comment on the potential with any degree of advanced expertise. That said, there are many who like what they see with things such as PsyberX and Exode.
With Hive, you are free to forge your own path. Some will make it as content creators. We could end up with professional gamers. Others will utilize the DeFi features for massive gain.
There is no one path. Nevertheless, it all seems to revert back to the idea of either taking this seriously, like business owners do, or not. Here is where the choice to take advantage of an opportunity arise.
In the end, the results are up to you. This is something most do not like to hear but that is the reality.
The path you forge is based upon the decisions you make.
