You would think this is common sense yet evidently not.
How many times have you seen someone Tweet that Elon Musk needs to intergrate with Hive? Or that Jack Dorsey should take a look at what we are building?
Here is the reality: these people do NOT care.
Elon Musk, even if he was aware of Hive, would not care. Nor does Jack Dorsey. Since Hive cannot be controlled, they have no interest.
The idea they are Web 3.0 people and interested in what we espouse as virtues is garbage. They could care less.
Wealth Within The System
Both of these example have done extremely well for themselves. Elon is back to being one of the richest people in the world. His acquisition of Twitter, while panned by many, will make him (and his investors) another couple hundred billion dollars. The $44 billion he paid for the corporation will look cheap in hindsight.
As for Dorsy, I believe he is also a billionaire, although not on Musk's level. Either way, he is not hurting.
Both of these men got extremely wealthy of the present system. Make no mistake, they will likely get even richer as their newer projects take shape.
Against that backdrop, do you think they give a flying you know what about the users? They are a means to an end.
Do they want them to have a great experience? Of course. That is what will keep them coming back. Outside of that, however, it is about making money. This is what the business world is about.
Of course, it would be good for cryptocurrency to embrace some of the approaches of these people in that regard. The laziness and lack of business building is overwhelming. It is quite frankly stunning how little people actually put in.
Getting back to the subject at hand, it is time to stop looking at these people as saviors. They are not about Web 3.0 or any of its ideals. They do NOT want decentralization and anything that it entails. If there is no control, they are lost.
Web 2.5
Jack is building Web 2.5 (So aptly named by the CTT guys). He calls is Web 5.0, the combination of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0. Might as well call this WebBullCrap. It is a con job.
He wants people to think that he is building and promoting values of Web 3.0. If that were the case, why not call it Web 3.0? The answer lies in the fact he was quickly be called out. Again, the reality is he is drifting towards Web 2.0 with the latter being nothing more than a marketing job.
Let us look and see if we find some basics:
- is there true account ownership?
- is the node system decentralized AND incentivized?
- is there VC money involved?
- is the data censorship resistant?
Do you think we have to go through each of these? We already know the answers.
Jack Dorsey is about as interested in Web 3.0 as Mother Teresa was in running an online porn company. In fact, both might have the same knowledge about those analogies. It is evident Jack knows little about Web 3.0.
Perhaps that is because he doesn't care.
Those on traditional social media trying to get the attention of the cryptocurrency influencers, people like Jack/Elon, and the others with serious followings are wasting their time. None of these people care.
It is all about the money and they are all doing fine. YouTube pays the top content creators enough to have them remain and sells the rest on the dream.
On Hive, we know we are operating in a much different world. Therefore, the answer is not to target these people but those who can truly help the ecosystem.
It is high time we adopt the Hive attitude.
What is that? The answer will be in the next article.
