Welcome back,
Crypto Currencies are one of the most risky assets to invest in as there we have seen people becoming millionaire as well as losing all their money and getting wrecked by the market in a short span of time. Even if a person manages to fall under the only few percent who makes money in this market they will also have to take care of one more thing. They have to stay safe from Crypto Hacks where a huge amount is stolen in a short span of time. In last 5 years Crypto Hacks have increased significantly. In fact in 2025, we have seen all records getting broken for the total crypto compromised in the first half of the year.
According to reports Hackers have stole $2.1 billion in crypto in the first half of 2025 which is the highest so far. It is in fact 10% more than the last record which was witnessed in 2022. My friend was also a victim last year where his entire wallet got compromised and he lost all his money. It was reported that around 70% of the total hack are done by the hackers of North Korea but irrespective of who did that there are ways we can use to make sure our Crypto are safe and secure away from these hacks.
According to reports 80% of the stolen crypto are the result of compromised seed phrase where a user end up giving access to their private keys to the hacker via a phishing link or malicious software. We do not see people taking this seriously and most of the users are falling under the group that have not taken any security measures for the safety of their funds. If you are part of the Crypto community it is your responsibility to learn about the ways you should use to keep your funds secure from all types of hack.
The best and the strongest hack proof way is to own a cold storage / cold wallet as they are immune to remote hacks and only you have access to your wallet and it keeps your key stored locally offline on your Cold wallet ( Ledger ). Your long term holdings deserve to stay on your cold storage and in my opinion there is no reason to keep them on a Centralized Exchange or even on a Web3 Wallet if you are planning to not touch your long term holdings at all for next few years.
Never share your seed phrase with anyone. Most of the new as well as old members of Crypto community still don't know that how important our seed phrases are and my statement is true and justified as we learnt above that 80% of hacks are due to the compromised seed phrases where the hacker get access to your wallet and nothing can be done about it once that is happened. Seed phrases are part of blockchain and once they are created they can never be changed and that is why they are very important.
If you are not wanting to use a Cold Wallet there are Multi-Signature Wallet in the market where you can have more than one private key that is asked before any transaction is made. In these wallets even if one of the private keys are compromised the hacker will fail to take away the funds as a Multi-Signature wallet will ask for all the keys before once can go on with the transaction. One of the wallets in my knowledge is Safe Wallet which uses Multi signature keys.
If you are using Centralized exchanges than you have a option of 2FA and a lot of users never set a 2FA on their device. Believe it or not but the 2FA is the securest form of saving your funds on a Centralized exchange. Lastly I will say that never trust on random people and their DM's. People will never reach you out and say that they will make money for you. If anyone does that asked them to make money for themselves and block them immediately.
Remember always that, In crypto, you are your own bank. But that also means you're your own security system.
Thank You, Stay Safe, and Happy Trading Everyone.
