It's been a wild ride for sure! And for those that count the years, you will know I started out on the old chain and came over when we all forked. What really drew me in at first was the lure of earning for posting. I was in the mining world at the time and was in the process of building out Coin Logic as my one stop shop for my crypto needs. I tried to use the old, well, what became the Exxp plugin on my Wordpress based site to start tying those blogs into the blockchain. That was the start of my journey here. Didn't know I was going to be making friends along the way.
But it hasn't been all puppies and bunnies, and as I go along in this post, I am going to tell my story, both the good and the bad! But it's my truth, and I feel like after 5 years, I can give my honest take. So let's get to it shall we?
My Journey With The Weedcash Community
Once I got going and was learning my way around the ecosystem, the second layer was created and I found the old Weedcash community (RIP Weedcash). That is where I jumped in and started offering my services as a designer and website developer, because the old Weedcash information site was a Wordpress page.
I designed the Weedcash logo and came up with the tagline. When the fork happened, I helped make sure Weedcash token and front end was forked over to Hive, which we were the first to make the full jump. This is where I really started to build my reputation in the community.
Along the way I tried to start up the Weedcash store, Weedchat and a few other features, but we just couldn't get things off the ground and unfortunately the founder has ghosted us and let the domain slip away. Although the site is no longer there, the main cannabis loving crew is all still together, so not all is lost.
Building Hivelist
During that time, I took the opportunity to jump out of an 8 year career with Apple to start my own business on the blockchain, Hivelist. This was me trying to bring my love for the idea of a free and alternative economy using cryptocurrencies through e-commerce over to the blockchain.
It started off as just a basic classifieds network, but has grown to add on the retail store, NFT marketplace, and diesel pool that pays out for providing liquidity. Now with the recent integration with the HiveCommerce Token as an addition to the LIST token in our ecosystem, we are hoping to gain some more ground in the community.
I still believe that e-commerce is the best usecase for crypto in the way of fulfilling it's original purpose, I just really hope that after 4 years of being open, that the community will start actually utilizing it instead of still supporting the traditional corporations that really don't like us.
Trying To Save Other Communities
Another piece to my journey was me trying to save another entrepreneur community that I didn't even start, but ended up taking the reigns. HiveHustlers (now closed as of this month), was started by another person who is no longer on the blockchain, at least around here, and during his attempt to leave the chain, really unexpectedly, I ended up taking over the account and community in an attempt to save it. But unfortunately the damage had been done, not just to the reputation of the name HiveHustlers, but to the token economy.
This was when the HiveCommerce (COM) token came into play as an attempt to save and repair the tokenomics of the community. Unfortunately, I couldn't garner the support I was hoping for and the project fizzled, and the HUSTLER token price went to damn near zero, so I am chalking that up as a lesson learned and a failure. But not all is lost because I am reallocating those resources into my homestead and 3D printing farm.
My Final Attempt In the Music Industry
Hive and Web3 gave me the inspiration to continue on in my music career, by making my last attempt to do something good to bring independent musicians a way to earn and connect with fans in a whole new way through blockchain, while making some money on my music at the same time! This was when BlockTunes was born.
BlockTunes is my last attempt in this industry by me pulling together my 20+ years of experience together to try and help independent musicians bring their music to the world, and earn some crypto along the way. This has been another project that hasn't taken on the community support I had hoped for either, even though we bring a lot of offerings to the table. I feel like it was a good attempt, but I had a different idea of how it would have been received than how it was.
I started off trying to integrate other blockchains like BSC and Polygon, because to be honest, I can do more with those chains as far as NFTs are concerned, but was met with some real negative feedback from the Hive community. So what I did was take those resources and started the Hive based front end that brings in all music related posts on Hive into one place.
What I didn't anticipate was how tribalistic the music community on Hive is, haha. I mean I have tried working with other communities and have basically been turned away, and even those that I was hoping was going help me get this thing up and going, has since really ghosted me. So it is what it is. I am still using it and have it built for my own music purposes and as a nice resume piece, so hopefully it catches on in this coming crypto cycle.
Building Online Connections
Like I said in the intro, I didn't realize I would be building some not only online, but offline friendships. That was a bonus to the whole thing. In the trading world, you can really get on your own metaphorical island. You can really get lost in your own head, and trying to learn to navigate learning the cryptocurrency space alone is an extremely stressful task. It's nice having people to help you along the way.
Being on Hive was nice because it wasn't the same as other social networks and I was actually able to connect with some really great and interesting people from all over the world that has opened me up to some really cool opportunities that I wouldn't have had otherwise! So thank you to you all and you are why I still hang around this place!
Finding The Love Of Writing And Becoming A Professional Author
Hive opened me up to a whole new world that I never thought i would get into, professional writing. I had been a professional educator, written educational material and such, and was trying to write crypto new articles, but I never thought I would fall in love with it. Hive gave me the opportunity to not only earn for my writing instantly without having to deal with affiliate marketing, etc, but it challenged me to become a better writer and creator.
I had already been getting my feet wet with videos, so the writing part just came along with it, and way more easily than I would have expected. It's just natural at this point, and I feel that I keep getting better and better with every blog article and video I produce. The whole dynamic of earning challenges me to be better and find fresh material to create so I can grab a bigger audience and build a bigger following. Like trading, being a writer and creator on Hive challenges me to be a better me overall.
Still Here And Hivin' After 5 Years
So all in all, my Hive journey over the last 5 years has taught me a ton that I wouldn't have learned anywhere else. I learned more about other cultures, I have learned new skill and improved on already existing ones, made some great online and offline friends, and have become a better me entirely.
Even with all the ups and downs, I feel like my Hive journey still has a lot to teach me. Being a full time Hiver and trader is extremely hard and has seen me in some really tight spots, but I would trade the experience for anything in the world.
So here is to another 5 years on this awesome chain! Hopefully in this cycle we can really start making a mark on the crypto industry and bring all these projects the much needed attention that I believe they deserve. I am not just talking about my projects either! I feel our little ecosystem is extremely underrated and has a ton of room to grow. We just have to white knuckle our way through the bad times, because I have seen the good times, and they are pretty freaking awesome! Hope you continue the ride with me!
