I’ve been meaning to share this with you all for a bit now, and I finally got around to writing it up. I built a new WordPress plugin called the Hive Keychain Login plugin. It’s simple but highly effective. It's a solution that I have been trying to get done for a while, and finally got it to work! What it does is it lets people log into a WordPress site using their Hive account and Hive Keychain. No passwords, just smooth, secure logins using the same tools we already use on Hive.
I am also working on a smart lock plugin that will be a sister plugin that offers a different way to sign in for those that don't use Hive Keychain. So don't you worry about that. It already works, but I am just tweaking it a bit. Until then, the Hive Keychain Login Plugin is working and available!
What To Expect
Once it’s installed on a WordPress site, this plugin adds a “Sign in with Hive Keychain” button to the main Wordpress login page. Click the button, type in your Hive username in the prompt window, and Keychain handles the rest. If you’ve never logged into the site before, it’ll create a WordPress account for you automatically using your Hive username. If you’ve logged in before, it just signs you in, as long as you used your Hive username to create your original account. It’s all tied to Hive Keychain, so you don’t have to remember any new passwords or mess with extra verification steps, plus it makes it an incredibly secure login!
Why I Built It
I have been trying to build Hive projects for years on Wordpress. I am a WP-Junkie. It's what I know and what I love to use. I started the Hivelist project on Wordpress and wanted this kind of functionality, but nobody would build it. WordPress powers a huge chunk of the internet, and it just made sense to build something that connects the two.
There used to be a Wordpress blogging plugin for Hive called Steempress and changed to Exxp after the fork. Not long after the developers who earned their top witness spots because of this app and others, abandoned the project. So those of use who had Wordpress blogs connected to Hive have been left out in the cold... Until now!
Whether you’re running a blog, a store, or any other kind of WordPress site, this plugin makes it easy for Hive users to log in, and it might even open the door for more people to discover Hive in the process.
How It Works
You don’t need to be a dev to use it. Once you install the plugin, it adds the login button right on the default login screen. There’s also a shortcode if you want to drop it somewhere else, like your homepage or a sidebar widget. When someone clicks the button, they’ll get a simple prompt to enter their Hive username, and Keychain will ask them to sign a quick message. Once that’s done, the plugin either logs them in or creates a new account tied to that Hive name. From there, they’re in. No passwords to reset, no accounts to manage manually.
Want to See It in Action?
If you're curious how it works before grabbing a copy, just head over to the Hivelist Store and try it out for yourself. We’ve got the plugin running live there, and you can log in using your Hive account and Hive Keychain. It’s quick, it’s seamless, and if you’ve never visited the site before, it’ll automatically create your account in the background. No mess, no fuss—just click, sign, and you’re in. It’s a great way to experience what the plugin does without needing to install anything first.
Why It Matters
If you’re already deep in the Hive ecosystem, this just makes life easier. And if you’re running a WordPress site that caters to Hive users, it’s a great way to make login smoother while showing off the power of Hive Keychain. It’s also another step toward bringing Hive tech to a wider audience. This kind of integration helps show people outside of Hive what’s possible when you combine blockchain with everyday tools.
Available in the Hivelist Store
Just to be clear, this plugin isn’t open source, and it won’t be listed in the WordPress plugin directory. Since I haven’t submitted any proposals to the DHF or received any kind of funding or sponsorship for this work, I’ve decided to offer it as a paid digital product through the Hivelist Store. You’ll be able to buy it using HBD, keeping everything within the Hive ecosystem. There are tons of premium WordPress plugins out there that aren’t open source, and I think there’s room for that kind of model here too—especially if it helps support Hive-based e-commerce and shows people how real commerce can happen on-chain.
I’ll be rolling out more Hive-connected plugins in the future as well, and they’ll be available in the same way. The goal here is to build useful tools for the Hive community while also helping grow the marketplace side of Hive. If you’re into that, this is one more step in the right direction.
Let me know what you think. I’m always open to feedback, and I’d love to see where this can go next. Next plugin I launch will be the HBD Payment Plugin for WooCommerce that also uses Hive Keychain!
So if you have a Wordpress site and you want to get this plugin on your site and activated, well go and get your copy now! All you have to do is purchase, download the zip file, go into your Wordpress admin>Plugins>Add New Plugin and then upload the zip file. Once installed, activate the plugin and you are good to go!
Until next time...
Be cool, be real, and always abide with you my dudes!
